Maya Angelou is one of the most honored writers of her generation. She has been honored by universities, literary organizations, government agencies, and special interest groups. Her honors include a National Book Award nomination for I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, a Pulitzer Prize nomination for her book of poetry, Just Give Me A Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Diiie, a Tony Award nomination for her role in the 1973 play Look Away, and three Grammys for her spoken word albums. In 1995, Angelou's publishing company, Bantam Books, recognized her for having the longest-running record (two years) on The New York Times Paperback Nonfiction Bestseller List.[87] She has served on two presidential committees,[88] and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Arts in 2000[89] and the Lincoln Medal in 2008. Philippus Ulstadius (also Ulstadt or Ulstade), a native of Nuremburg, taught medicine at Fribourg (Switzerland) in the early 16th century. His book, Coelum philosophorum, seu, De secretis naturae liber, literally The philosopher's sky, or, The book of the secrets of nature, was first published in 1525 in Fribourg and reprinted many times. This handsome calf-bound facsimile, one of 999 copies published in 2002, reproduces a copy of the 1525 Fribourg edition of Ulstadius's book from the Biblioteca Historica Marques de Valdecilla at the University of Madrid. The accompanying volume translates the original Latin text into Spanish and English and includes many plates illustrating the history of alchemy. This work was one of many early texts on aspects of the pseudoscience of alchemy. Ulstadius's work describes many methods of making drinkable gold, dissolving and distilling it into a drinkable elixir that would improve health and even preserve life.

The first contains 3 original etchings by Rene Magritte, each numbered, signed in the plate and blind-stamped by the Magritte estate; next is "The Eternally Obvious", a full-size reproduction of a nude woman split into 5 separate parts, each printed on canvas; and last are eight reproductions each of the gouaches "The Pig's Beer" and "Horse Preserve", printed on adhesive paper and meant to be stuck on bottles just like the originals were. Also included is a folder with the justification page. The box, which is done in the form of a book, is housed in a leather-trimmed slipcase; in new condition. The binding of this heavy volume was not sufficiently reinforced by the binder and problems with cracking along the hinges are normal. Binding of this copy is very good however, hinges are intact, and there are no breaks or cracks to the binding; boards and spine are straight. No jacket, apparently as issued.
