Berlin, Unger, 1783. - Eine von vier deutschen Übersetzungen des ungemein populären Buches, die im Jahr nach der französ. Erstausgabe erschienen sind; Fromm führt drei davon auf. Linguet (1736-1794), der Herausgeber der berühmten "Annales politiques, civiles et littéraires", war einer der scharfzüngisten und gefürchtetsten Polemiker seiner Zeit. Seine Beurteilungen waren scharfsinnig und höchst unorthodox, und durch die Rücksichtslosigkeit seiner Sprache blieben ihm nur wenige Freunde. Durch ein "Lettre de cachet" des Königs wurde Linguet 1780 in die Bastille verbracht. Seine Erfahrungen dort werden in diesem Buch geschildert, das eine heftige Attacke auf das Rechtssystem des Regimes ist. Die lebendige (und manchmal auch recht übertriebene) Schilderung der Schrecken der Bastille beeinflußte die allgemeine Vorstellung von diesem Gefängnis als Symbol des Despotismus erheblich. Nach seiner Entlassung ging Linguet zuerst nach London, erschien 1791 wieder in Paris, um vor den Schranken des Konvents die Sache der Schwarzen in Haiti zu verteidigen, und wurde schließlich während der Schreckensherrschaft hingerichtet. – Gebräunt. – Fromm 15300.

Esemplare molto marginoso e in barbe. leve brunitura al margine sinistro delle pagine. Interessante e assolutamente rara prima edizione di quest' opera adorna di due belle tavole al fine. Il trattato di Cacherano sostiene l’esigenza di una profonda riorganizzazione della campagna romana che eviti il tracollo della produzione agricola, legata a schemi troppo antiquati. Presi gli ordini minori, Cacherano si laureò a Torino nel 1775. Trasferitosi a Roma l’anno seguente, nel 1761 fu nominato prelato della Fabbrica di San Pietro. Dal 1763 al 1785 svolse l’incarico di governatore a Todi, Collevecchio, Fano, Iesi e Montalto, avendo così modo di constatare quale fosse lo stato di miseria e di abbandono di questi territori. Questo primo saggio delle sue idee riformistiche venne pubblicato in questa prima edizione, nel 1783, a Macerata. Dopo la pubblicazione della presente opera, che resta la sua più importante, Cacherano fu nominato governatore di Campagna e di Marittima. Nel 1798 fu costretto ad abbandonare Roma e trovò rifugio ad Intra. Morì dimenticato a Torino nel 1812 (cfr. D.B.I., XVI, pp. 50-53).

The printing house of Jordi, Roca and Gaspar was active in the latter years of the 18th century; its tradition of printing topical works continued at least until the 1830s under the helm of Agustin Roca!s widow. Agustin Roca published clandestine leaflets during the Napoleonic invasion and was forced to flee to Tarragona and Mallorca. According to Palau, the pamphlets pertaining to both the 1802 and 1827 festivities were issued separately as well as in the collected editions found here. Sherwin, is a fine engraving of a togate statue of Cicero in an Oxford collection. Full apparatus criticus and index. A beautifully printed, extensive eighteenth century edition of a great body of classical literature. Contemporary diced calf, rather dried and worn at extremities, and rebacked with large portions of the original spines laid down. Occasional faint foxing, else internally fine.

Typis Academiae Imperialis Scientiarum, Petropoli [St Petersbourg] 1783-85. 4to. (4)+363; (4)+346 pages. Including two foldout engravings in the second volume. 250x202 mm. Bound in two nice later (mid 19th century) halfleather bindings of calf with gilt decoration on the spines. The spine of the first volume has a very small repair and the outer hinges are very slightly dry. Corners with minor bumps. There is a stamp on the inner cover of both volumes and all edges are with a little foxing. A very presentable copy. * First edition of 29 hitherto unpublished papers presented by the famous mathematician Leonhard Euler to the St Petersbourg Academy. Euler (1707-1783) was born in Switzerland but spent most of his life in Russia and Germany. He made very important contributions to the mathematical sciences in calculus and graph theory, and also established a notation and terminology for solving mathematical problems. Here is one of Euler's more uncommon publications in a nice set.

A Philadelphie, et se trouve à Paris [Printed for Benjamin Franklin by], Chez Ph.–D. Pierres … Pissot, pere & fils, 1783. Woodcut seal of the United States of America on title-page. (2 ll.), 540 pp. 8º, contemporary quarter calf over decorated boards (joints cracked and weak, worn at extremities), crimson morocco label, gilt letter, spine richly gilt with raised bands in five compartments, marbled endpapers, edges sprinkled red and blue–green. A very good, internally clean copy. First collected edition in French, translated by the Duc de la Rochefoucauld. Six hundred copies were printed (of which there were 100 on large paper). The Seal of the United States, eagle, stars and stripes, designed by Franklin, is used in the imprint on the title-page. This is the first use of the Seal in a book. In addition to the Constitution of each of the thirteen states, the text includes the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and three treaties (between the newly independent United States and France, Sweden, and The Netherlands, respectively). The translations were made several years before this publication, at the behest of Franklin, the Minister to the French court, who had negotiated with Great Britain for the independence of the thirteen colonies, and who probably supplied the annotative footnotes throughout. "Franklin's grand gesture in publishing and distributing these constitutions, about which there was an intense interest and curiosity among statesmen, was one of his chief achievements as propagandist for the new American republic."—Streeter. He explained his motives in a 1783 Christmas day letter to Thomas Mifflin: "The extravagant Misrepresentations of our Political State in foreign Countries, made it appear necessary to give them better Information, which I thought could not be more effectually and authentically done, than by publishing a Translation into French, now the most general Language in Europe, of the Book of Constitutions, which had been printed by Order of Congress. This I accordingly go well done, and … I am persuaded that this Step will not only tend to promote the Emigration to our Country of substantial People from all Parts of Europe, by the numerous Copies I shall disperse, but will facilitate our future Treaties with foreign Courts, who could not before know what kind of Government and People they had to treat with." HLdr. mit montiertem LRückenschild ("Meiszner") und Bandzahl. Kopffarbschnitt. Stehkanten beschabt, Rücken an Kopf und Fuß beschädigt. Exlibris von John Waterhouse, Halifax, auf den vorderen Innendeckeln. Durchgängig leicht stockfleckig. Die angegebenen Porto- und Verpackungskosten sind die pauschalierte Obergrenze für den Inlandsversand. Wir bemühen uns, die Bücher auf dem für den Kunden günstigsten Wege (z.B. Büchersendung bis 1000g 1,95 Eur) zu verschicken. Die ersten drei Bände (6 Sammlungen) enthalten ausschließlich Texte Meißners, der vierte Band (7. und 8. Liegen hier nicht vor. - Meißner schreibt am Ende des Vorworts zur 7. und 8. Sammlung: "Alle Aufsätze der erstern fünf Samlungen sind nun in gegenwärtige vier Bände gebracht. Fast ein Drittheil ist dazu gekommen; und auf das Wünschen meines Verlegers soll auch noch ein fünfter Band zu dieser Auflage erscheinen, in welchen ich theils einige in verschiednen Journälen mit und ohne meinen Namen schon eingerückte Erzählungen samlen, theils einige handschriftliche neu hinzufügen werde. Alsdenn Lebewohl den Skizzen gesagt. Dresden Monat Jul. 1785." - Zu jedem Band gehört ein Frontispiz und ein Titelkupfer. "Edition originale et premier tirage. Bel ouvrage illustré de figures en couleurs par Louis-Marin Bonnet ""premier graveur dans ce genre"" et inventeur d'un procédé d'impression en manière de miniature ou de pastel. Spécialiste de gravures galantes, Bonnet ne semble avoir illustré, dans un genre différent, que ce seul livre, principal ouvrage d'un militaire dont le courage fut remarqué pendant la Guerre de Sept Ans. En tête de l'épître liminaire, une grande vignette en couleurs montre les armoiries ornementées du duc du Châtelet, dédicataire du livre; puis l'on trouve 11 planches en couleurs repliées, agrémentées, pour la plupart, de cartouches ornementés et de charmants paysages en couleurs. La vignette de l'épître dédicatoire ne se trouve pas dans tous les exemplaires: dans nombre d'entres eux, le texte a été remonté de façon à occuper la place de la vignette. Le livre est supérieurement imprimé par François Didot avec ses nouveaux caractères. Le texte des soixantes dernières pages est un précis pour servir à présenter les plans militaires donnant des indications pour les tracés des reliefs, agglomérations, cultures, etc..., et pour les couleurs à employer à la représentation. Mouillures marginales à quelques feuillets, certains marginalement restaurés, petit manque de cuir au dos."

An uncommonly attractive set, fine and bright internally in proper contemporary bindings very well preserved.. HIGHLY IMPORTANT, THE FIRST ACCOUNT OF A SUCCESSFUL BALLOON FLIGHT AND THE FIRST ACCOUNT OF A FLIGHT UNDERTAKEN BY HUMAN BEINGS. A PMM TITLE OF EXTREME RELEVANCE TO THE DAY TO DAY LIFE OF MODERN MEN. It is Othe earliest record of flight, written and published in the very year of its accomplishment. It is the first serious treatise on aerostation as a practical possibilityO -PMM. The Smithsonian Institution calls having both volumes in first edition Oa rare combinationO. Brothers Joseph and Etienne Montgolfier, French paper-makers, conducted an experiment in June of 1783 where a OCloud enclosed in a bagO (a linen globe filled with air heated over a straw fire) was successfully launched into the air on a tether at Annonay. Eminent French scientist Faujas de Saint-Fond organized a subscription for them to repeat the experiment. In the meantime another successful balloon launch, this time by J.A.C. Charles using a hydrogen filled balloon was chronicled in August at the Champs de Mars in Paris. Charles achievement would soon be greatly surpassed however when in September the Montfolfiers launched a balloon carrying a sheep, a chicken and duck. The first living aeronauts. Then, even more sensationally, in November Piatre de Roziere and the Marquis dO Arlandes made the first human aerial voyage in history. They launched, untethered, from the Chateau de la Muette for a five and a half mile aerial trek across the skies of Paris and landed twenty five minutes later in the outskirts of the city. Faujas de Saint-FondOs account is the first published work on this flight and thus the first record of a flight undertaken by Human Beings. It is extensive and descriptive in both historical and technical matters. It is still widely studied to this day as the authentic historical start of the age of aviation.

L’ opera del diplomatico ed economista liberale francese Mirabeau che fa seguito alla grande crisi finanziaria avutasi in Francia nel 1783 causata dal monopolio di alcune banche sul mercato finanziario, in balia di interessi di governo, piuttosto che ispirato al libero commercio. Mirabeau è contrario ai privilegi delle banche e cita il sistema britannico descritto dalla scozzese Adam Smith (The Wealth of Nations, 1776) come esempio da mutuare, preconizzando un sistema bancario indipendente dove le singole fluttuazioni dei tassi di interesse fossero naturalmente riassorbite dalle operazioni di speculazione, che avrebbero "naturalmente" riportato l’equilibrio tra le strategie di prestito sui capitali detenuti e la domanda pubblica. Il suo discepolo, Jacques Turgot, realizzò un primo passo verso un sistema bancario libero e indipendente con l’ apertura di una banca di emissione, la Caisse d' Escompte, che iniziò a battere moneta dal 1776. "Le programme de réforme lancé par Turgot fut arrêté quand il quitta le gouvernement, et la Caisse d'Escompte se retrouva disposer d'un monopole inattendu dans le domaine bancaire. L'exclusivité de ses privilèges donna lieu à une crise monétaire d' une ampleur inconnue depuis la disparition de la Banque de Law au début du dix- huitième siècle. Le Comte de Mirabeau analysa dans son livre De la Caisse d'Escompte (1785: 39) les conséquences fâcheuses de ce monopole. Notant le lien entre la crise financière de 1783 et les "époques fâcheuses, difficiles et presque périodiques qui affligent le commerce", Mirabeau préconisa l'égalité de traitement entre les emprunteurs, s'opposa aux privilèges des banques, et cita les systèmes britanniques en exemple." F. C. Lehoucq est une Rare impression lilloise non connue de Danchin et non enregistrée à la BNF. Le libraire C. J.F. Lehoucq réedite une impression des contes Mongols par un imprimeur lillois, mais aucun nom d'imprimeur n'est relevé sur ces 4 vol. D'après Danchin nous avons quelques renseignement sur ce librairie : en 1773 il était établi rue St Nicolas et faisait imprimer chez J.B.J. Henry (1752-1884) et le Vve Hubert-Ignace Lemmens (1772-1777). En 1779 nous le trouvons rue Neuve à Lille. En 1783 il fait imprimer par CH.L de Boubers "Les mille et une heures. Contes Péruviens également de Gueulette, il se situe rue Neuve la porte cochère à droite en entrant par la place. En 1793 il est libraire rue des Buisses. Nous retrouvons sa trace en 1809 et 1813 Danchin signale n 3287 et 3304 J. F. C Lehoucq ancien libraire, (catalogue de ventes de livres sous la direction...) Nous pouvons penser que ces volumes ont été imprimé à l'époque de l'impression des "contes péruviens" soit 1783. GUEULLETTE, Thomas-Simon (1683-1736), né à Paris 2 juin 1683 ; mort à Charenton 22 décembre 1766, ont lui doit entre autres : Les Sultanes de Guzarate, ou les Songes des hommes éveillées, contes mongols, Paris 1732, 3 vol. in-12. réimprimés sous le titre de Mille et une Soirées, 1749, 3 vol. in-12. First edition. ‘Ouvrage estimé’ (Brunet). A splendidly illustrated military treatise and excellent example of French colour printing written by a French infantry officer and mathematician who distinguished himself in the Seven Years’ War.Fossé wrote this work whilst garrisoned at Nancy where he was involved in training and educating the troops. He divides his work into three parts: the first discussing various forms of constructing fortifications; the second, the manner in which small entrenchments and outworks were to be attacked; and, the third, the best methods of producing coloured military maps and charts. The attractive plates, which show, for example, the ‘Application de la fortification de campagne’, ‘Defenses de postes’, and a ‘Plan d’un chateau escarpe occupé par 300 hommes disposés à se défenre contre un attaque d’emblée’, were originally drawn by Fossé. They were engraved by Louis Marin Bonnet, who utilised the crayon manner colour-printing technique which he claimed to have invented. Although his assertion ‘to the discovery of the whole method is out of the question, he at least seems to have been the first to imitate the quality of pastel by printing a crayon engraving in various colours, apparently using a plate for each tone . . . . His pigment seems to have been comparatively permanent in colour’ (Hind, A short history of engraving and etching p. 288).Inserted in this copy are three additional leaves with a manuscript biographical note on the author signed, Alexandre Fossé 1858, and two copies of the letter sent by Louis XVI to Charles Fossé in 1785 awarding him the cross of the Order of St Louis, an honour given to exceptional officers. Fossé’s military career ended, in 1793, when he was accused of being a royalist. George Eyre and Andrew Strahan, Printers, London, 1783-1816. - The first four volumes as follows; Vol. #1-382 leaves, Vol. #2-450pp.,Vol. #3- 570pp. (index vol.), Vol. #4-635pp. (supplement vol.). All handsomely bound in 19th century ¾ calf over marbled boards, raised bands with contrasting red morocco labels gilt. Joints of two volumes expertly repaired otherwise an exceptionally nice set and quite scarce as such. There are 26 blank leaves in volume one with a few leaves containing portions of text or text on the verso. It would appear these leaves were left blank for illustrations which evidently never took place, perhaps because of the cost and man power it would take to make it possible. [Projected cost and labor is noted in volume 3]. It does contain the later inserted title pages & contents leaves and, the four facsimile leaves are present in the last volume (the supplement) two displaying hand coloring. The first two volumes are printed on hand-made laid paper watermarked J. Whatman, and coat-of-arms with the King's Initials "GR". The last two volumes printed on hand-made wove paper by Balston & C. all uncut and wide margined. The last page [cvii] of the general introduction of the third volume states: "It was not however till after 1770 that the work was actually commenced. It was completed early in 1783, having been ten years in passing through the press. The type with which it was executed was destroyed in the fire which consumed Mr. Nichols's printing-office in the month of February 1808". The book itself was proposed by Mr. John Nichols, and executed by Mr. Joseph Jackson and printed by George Eyre and Andrew Strahan. While title pages were added later and dated 1816, printed on the last page of volume three is the printers' names and date1811 and volume four dated 1816. The Domesday Book was commissioned in December 1085 by William the Conqueror, who invaded England in 1066. The Domesday Book project was a major undertaking employing many transcribers of the manuscripts and type makers to design the special type used. It is one of the most ancient records of England and represented an amazing accomplishment. It is the Register from which judgment was to be given upon the value, tenure, and services of the land. Another point on which the Domesday Survey throws considerable light, is the history of their ancient Castles which William erected everywhere. By the completion of this survey, the King acquired an exact knowledge of the possessions of the crown. It afforded him names of the land holders, and the means of ascertaining the military strength of the country. It also pointed out the possibility of increasing the revenue in some cases, and of lessening the demands of the tax collectors in others. The Domesday Book also left exact records behind which give historians today much data about Norman English life and the first appearance of English names. At the end of the introduction to volume four pertaining to the "Bolden Book", considered the most important work of the supplement, is from the Laud MSS. 542. Contained herein is a manuscript note stating; "This account of the "Bolden Book" was written by me; I also transcribed MS. Laud, collated it with the others & prepared the whole for the press as it appeared in that volume. [signed] Adam Clarke. Adam Clarke was a noted commentator and theological writer who lived in London after 1805. He wrote English translations and new editions of other men's books, a bibliographical dictionary in six volumes and many other very important works during his lifetime. He was also a member of the Society of Antiquaries of London. Our only reasoning for this note is the fact that while Clarke transcribed the Laud MS. his name was not acknowledged as the transcriber and does not appear within the text. Only those either of high office or directly involved in its publication had their names included. Stokes was born in England where he trained as a barrister. He went to America and was appointed chief justice of Georgia in 1768; in 1772 he became councillor of the colony, remaining in these offices until the evacuation of Georgia by the British in 1782. He was a loyalist at the opening of the Revolution, and was taken prisoner, but was soon afterward exchanged; he went to Charleston, South Carolina, after leaving Georgia, and at the evacuation of Charleston he returned to England. Rare et intéressante réunion de 2 documents sur l'Ecole Royale de Dessin, créée en 1767 par J.-J. Bachelier et qui durera sous ce nom jusqu'à la fin de l'Empire en 1815. Son but était de ""former d'excellents ouvriers en tous genres ; on y enseigne le dessin (figures humaines, animaux, ornements, fleurs), les mathématiques et l'Architecture"". Edition rare imprimée à Vienne de cet ouvrage de Madame Le Prince de Beaumont (1711-1780) servant de suite à son fameux traité d'éducation intitulé "Magasin des enfants". Directrice d'une école privée pour adolescentes, elle écrivit de nombreux ouvrages pédagogiques ainsi que des contes dont "la Belle et la Bête" qui la rendit célèbre. D'abord paru périodiquement à Londres en 1760, le présent écrit à l'usage des jeunes filles, dans lequel sont mis en scène des personnages au nom éloquent tels Lady Sincère, Lady Tempête ou Miss Champêtre, eut un très grand succès lors de sa parution (cf. Exceptionnelle lettre du chevalier de Jouvancourt à Bory de Saint-Vincent, sur la spectaculaire éruption du Piton de la Fournaise de 1812 [les deux hommes avaient réalisé, en 1801, l'ascension et la première description scientifique générale du Piton de la Fournaise ; l'un des principaux cratères porte toujours le nom de Bory]. Il vient de réaliser une nouvelle ascension et décrit ce qu'il découvre. «C'est surtout la lave vomie par ce volcan en 1812 qui m'a frappée. Vous vous rappelez qu'en partant du piton Crac nous gravîmes une pente de laves brisées sur lesquelles végétaient de belles cannes maronnes ? En quittant cette pente, donnez-vous la peine de porter vos pas à gauche ; marchez encore quelques temps ; vous arrivez près du sommet intérieur de ce Piton. C'est de là qu'est sortie du sein d'un beau cratère cette terrible quantité de lave qui a couverte toute la plaine des Osmondes, qui l'a élevée de plus de vingt cinq toises et qui en la laissant, s'est rendue à la mer en torrent de feu [...]. Depuis votre départ de cette colonie, c'est la plus forte éruption qui ait eu lieu ; elle l'a été tellement que tous les habitants en ont été épouvantés. Non seulement l'île a été couverte de ces fils ou brins de cheveux dorés de matière vitrifiée, que nous ramassions sur les bords du cratère Dolomieu, mais encore les vaisseaux en ont vu dans le même moment à plus de trente lieues de l'île qui couvraient la surface de la mer. On lisait parfaitement la nuit à la lueur du volcan sur la place de Saint-Denis [...]». Il raconte encore les tremblements de terre qui ont été ressentis, les «bruits mystérieux et sourds», la nuit qui s'est abbatue durant un mois. Il évoque enfin les éruptions qui se sont produites depuis, transformant le paysage. «Le cratère Bory et le mamelon central ont disparu, il s'est formé un autre mamelon au milieu du cratère Dolomieu, et je pourrais dire que ce cratère forme un enclos au milieu d'un plus grand encore [...]. Si vous vous le rappelez, nous avons descendu ses bords pour arriver dans cette plaine. Voilà un fait duquel vous pouvez tirer cette conséquence, que les mêmes laves sont refondues en grands masses et qu'elles servent d'aliments aux volcans». Il relate les circonstances dans lesquelles il assista à la dernière éruption qui est toujours en cours. "Le soleil était caché derrière une grosse colonne de fumée qui sortait du cratère Dolomieu ; elle était si immense que je ne pouvais en croire mes yeux [...]». Il est joint la fin d'une autre lettre de Jouvancourt à Bory sur l'état économique catastrophique de la colonie (1 p. in-4). Bory a signé cette note au dos : «mon vieil ami et compagnon de voyage de Bourbon, chev. de Jouvancourt, trente ans après nos premières liaisons».

FIRST EDITION of this exhaustive work on insurance and maritime and commercial law by Balthazard-Marie �m�rigon (1716-1784).McCulloch notes: "The author of this work, an advocate in the parliament of Aix and a councillor in the admiralty court of Marseilles, . He had by long practice and study acquired a very extensive and profound knowledge of maritime and commercial law. This treatise is of the highest authority. It is said by Lord Tenterden, in the preface to his work on maritime law, to be 'peculiarly valuable for its extent of learned research, and the numerous and apt citations of the texts of the civil law and of the marine ordinances, the opinions of former writers, and the adjudications of the courts of justice of his own country, which are to be found in every part of it'". As one would expect in a maritime work there is a great deal on the Americas. A number of chapters deal with slavery: their market price, mortality problems (I, p. 205 ff.), slave revolts (I, p. 394 ff.), ship wreaks in the Caribbean (I, p. 400), French Islands in North America and the English possessions (II, p. 55 ff.). There are numerous examples given that had gone through the maritime courts. Some copies have an engraved portrait which is not present in this copy. This seems to be an issue point since more copies don't have than do. It probably wasn't ready when the work was first published. It will give me great pleasure to recieve (sic) the "History of New York" published by the Legislature of the State, which you have kindly proffered me. Please send by Adams' Express, to my address -- No. 11 South 5th St. or to W. Pennington, Book seller No. 10 South 5th. Very Respectfully, Your Obedient Servany, [signed] Tho Sully." The folded (into approximate sixths) note measures 5 and 3/8 inches tall by 8 inches wide. Three small old archival mount remnants on the reverse of the document. In very good plus condition, without any stains or smudging. Thomas Sully lived 1783 to 1872. He was born in England, and moved to the United States as a boy. Studied with his brother Lawrence (died 1803), opened a studio in New York (1806) and Philadelphia (1808). Known to have painted more than 2600 works. Among his best known are "Washington Crossing the Delaware," "Marquis de Lafayette," and "Jefferson, Madison, Jackson.". [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

Premiere parution sous le titre de "Nouveaux Memoires", des travaux de l'Academie de Dijon dont le chimiste Guyton de Morveau fut l'un des membres les plus actifs. Le present volume contient 4 textes signes de lui: "Recherches pour perfectionner la preparation des couleurs employees dans la Peinture" (pp.1-24), "Observations sur la congellation de l'acide vitriolique concentre" (pp.68-72), "Examen des mines de cuivre, appellees verd de montagne, bleu de montagne, et de ce qui constitue leur difference" (pp.100-105), et "Observations mineralogiques et chymiques, sur le spat pesant et sur la maniere d'en retirer le barote ou terre barotique" (pp.159-174). On y trouve par ailleurs un important memoire de Maret intitule: "Memoire sur la construction d'un Hopital, dans lequel on determine quel est le meilleur moyen a employer pour entretenir dans les Infirmeries un air pur et salubre" (pp.25-67). Il est illustre d'une planche gravee depliante reliee a la fin de l'ouvrage. Bel exemplaire tres pur, non rogne et non coupe..

Chez Valade 3774, A Paris - 18 vol. in-8, env. 480 pp. par vol., 4 tableaux dépl. et d'autres in-t., demi-veau vert à petits coins, dos ornés à nerfs, palettes et filets dorés, fleurons à froid, pièces de titre et de tomaison, tranches marbrées (reliure de l'époque). Qqs rousseurs (parfois fortes), dos passés, néanmoins bel exemplaire. Quatrième édition augmentée par Viton de Saint-Allais, avec des corrections et des annotations, après celle de 1783-1787, la dernière du vivant de dom Clément (?1793). Une Table générale (non fournie dans cet exemplaire) a paru chez Dénain en 1830. Cette édition peut se rencontrer complétée par deux autres parties : Avant l'ère chrétienne et Depuis l'année 1770 jusqu'à nos jours. En effet, à sa mort, dom Clément avait laissé ses papiers à son neveu, M. Duboy-Laverne. Les héritiers de ce dernier les cédèrent au généalogiste Viton de Saint-Allais qui donna la partie intitulée Avant l'ère chrétienne. Le chevalier de Courcelles et le marquis de Fortia d'Urban publièrent le premier volet de la troisième partie Depuis l'année 1770 jusqu'à nos jours, le second par David Baillie Warden, consul américain à Paris.

Sans lieu, sans non, 1783.~~1 volume in-8 (19,5 x 12,5 cm) de (4)-74-(2) pages.~~Reliure demi-veau glace chocolat, dos a faux-nerfs filetes et dores, fleurons, plats de papier uni caramel, petits coins de velin vert (reliure du debut du XIXe siecle – sans doute anglaise). Mors legerement frottes/fendilles sans gravite (solide). Interieur frais, avec quelques rousseurs claires, imprime sur beau papier fort.~ PREMIERE EDITION.~~On y trouve huit petits contes en vers qui ne figurent pas dans les œuvres de ce poete. Outre quelques dialogues et autres pieces en vers, on y trouve un conte libertin « la sonnette », un sonnet intitule « Gaiete » et une « epigramme » tres legere.~~Provenance : de la bibliotheque Carl Huitfeldt avec son ex libris armorie (moderne).~~BEL EXEMPLAIRE FINEMENT RELIE.~
