Newcastle Courant, Newcastle, ENGLAND 1777 - COMPLETE ORIGINAL 4-page Revolutionary War NEWSPAPER, the Newcastle Courant (Newcastle, ENGLAND) dated Nov 8, 1777. Inside page, full column report written and signed in type by British General JOHN BURGOYNE. This letter is a detailed first hand account of the BATTLE of BENNINGTON (Vermont), a battle of the SARATOGA CAMPAIGN that ended with the defeat of General Burgoyne by the Americans at the BATTLE of SARATOGA. VERY LONG and DETAILED contemporary account of the BATTLE of BENNINGTON !!! The Battle of Bennington was a battle of the American Revolutionary War that took place on August 16, 1777, in Walloomsac, New York, about 10 miles (16 km) from its namesake Bennington, Vermont. An American force of 2,000 men, primarily composed of New Hampshire and Massachusetts militiamen, led by General John Stark, and reinforced by men led by Colonel Seth Warner and members of the Green Mountain Boys, decisively defeated a detachment of General John Burgoyne's army led by Lieutenant Colonel Friedrich Baum, and supported by additional men under Lieutenant Colonel Heinrich von Breymann. Baum's detachment was a mixed force of 700 composed of dismounted Brunswick dragoons, Canadians, Loyalists, and Indians. He was sent by Burgoyne to raid Bennington in the disputed New Hampshire Grants area for horses, draft animals, and other supplies. Believing the town to be only lightly defended, they were unaware that Stark and 1,500 militiamen were stationed there. After a rain-caused standoff, Stark's men enveloped Baum's position, taking many prisoners and killing Baum. Reinforcements for both sides arrived as Stark and his men were mopping up, and the battle restarted, with Warner and Stark successfully driving away Breymann's reinforcements with heavy casualties. The battle was an important victory for the American cause, as it reduced Burgoyne's army in size by almost 1,000 men, led his Indian support to largely abandon him, and deprived him of needed supplies, all factors that contributed to Burgoyne's eventual surrender at Saratoga. The victory also galvanized colonial support for the independence movement, and played a role in bringing France into the war on the American side. The battle anniversary is celebrated in the state of Vermont as Bennington Battle Day. The Saratoga campaign was an attempt by Great Britain to gain military control of the strategically important Hudson River valley in 1777 during the American Revolutionary War. The primary thrust of the campaign was made by an army of 8,000 men under the command of John Burgoyne from Quebec that moved up Lake Champlain and down the Hudson to Saratoga, New York, where the bulk of the army was forced to surrender after the climactic Battles of Saratoga in September and October. Burgoyne's effort was unsuccessfully supported by an attempt by Colonel Barry St. Leger to move on Albany, New York through the Mohawk River valley. His expedition was forced to retreat after losing Indian support in the siege of Fort Stanwix. A third supporting expedition expected by General Burgoyne never materialized (apparently due to miscommunication on that year's campaign goals) when General William Howe sent his army to take Philadelphia rather than sending a portion of it up the Hudson River from New York City. A late effort to support Burgoyne from New York was made by Sir Henry Clinton in early October, but it did not alter the outcome. The American victory was an enormous morale boost to the fledgling nation, and it convinced France to enter the conflict in support of the United States, providing money, soldiers, naval support, and a wider theater of war. This newspaper was published weekly and has LOTS and LOTS of news from the AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR. It also has a RARE front page "headline" that reads: "General Hue and Cry." Basane d'époque, dos lisse orné, coiffes manquantes et mors supérieur fendu. La première édition est de 1745, celle-ci est une nouvelle, revue et augmentée. Elle est composée de deux parties. La première: Dissertation physique à l'occasion du Nègre Blanc, relate le cas d'un noir albinos, que Voltaire avait lui-même étudié. La seconde traite des variétés dans l'espèce humaine. Maupertuis expose le principe de l'épigénèse, bien avant Darwin. Pour lui, des variations fortuites expliquent l'apparition d'espèces nouvelles. Titre et date en queue. §Bernard (1690-1752) a rédigé ce livre curieux sur le modèle de l'.loge de la folie d'.rasme. L'idée lui aurait été donnée par la rédaction des Cérémonies et coutumes religieuses de tous les peuples. First edition, rare, of the French translation of Il Letterato Buon Cittadino, by the Italian Enlightenment author Luigi Gonzaga di Castiglione, together with his Essay Analytique sur les Decouvertes Capitales de l'Esprit Humain, a speech he had given at the London Royal Society the same year, and finally his essay on poetry, Réflexions su la Poesie. Gonzaga di Castiglione (1745-1819), a maverick Enlightenment figure, of noble birth and independent means but who renounced his title, was clearly influenced by Rousseau and other figures of the European Enlightenment. He was at home in Venice, Rome, Paris and in London, where he spoke at the Royal Society. In the title essay Gonzaga di Castiglione differs from his 'hero' Rousseau and professes the importance of literature as a source of happiness and a means to illuminate politics, the law and all human activity. The contribution of the writer is as important as that of the scientist in fighting ignorance and falsehood, and as an embodiment of the new values of intelligence, creativity and virtue. Gonzaga di Castiglione comes out in support of a constitutional monarchy, and was arguably the first to talk of liberty and democracy in Rome. In his Royal Academy essay he suggests the application of modern scientific methods to the study of modern social and political questions, to the relationship between the Church and the State, and praises the enlightened rulers of the time, who have turned their back on despotism. Winterthur, Heinrich Steiner und Comp., 1777.. . Erste Ausgabe eines der zauberhaftesten illustrierten Bücher des 18. Jahrhunderts. Mit gestochenem Titelblatt, auf dem der sein Publikum begrüßende Fabelerzähler, der jugendliche, lächelnde Aesop, von den Fabeltieren Löwe, Hirsch, Affe und Eichhörnchen umgeben ist. Dieses Titelblatt liegt hier in der deutschen Fassung vor, meist erscheint es mit französischem Text und der Jahreszahl 1780. Schellenberg hat das Werk seinem "hochgeschätzten edlen Freund" Chodowiecki gewidmet. In der Einleitung, die in deutscher Schreibschrift wiedergegeben ist, schreibt Schellenberg: "Keine Gegenstände in der Natur konnten mir mehrere Abwechslung in Absicht auf Erfindung, Zeichnung und des Stichs liefern, als das reiche Feld der Fabeln" und er bittet ihn, ihm seine Meinung über diese Probe freimütig mitzuteilen, und sollte das eine oder andere das Glück haben, seinen Beifall zu finden, dann sei ihm dies ein Antrieb, künftig seine Kräfte zu verdoppeln. Die Kupfer "gehören zu dem Besten, was Schellenbergs Stichel formte. Die Schilderung der sich zumeist in der Tierwelt abspielenden Vorgänge ist lebendig, die Menschen sind vorzüglich charakterisiert" (Leemann-van-Elck in: Stultifera Navis IV 3/4, S. 97). - Ungewöhnlich frisches, extrem breitrandiges, kaum fleckiges Exemplar auf festem Schreibpapier, wohl eine Vorzugsausgabe. Die Tafeln ebenfalls unbeschnitten, jedoch zwangsläufig kleiner im Format. So sehr selten. - Bodemann 165.1. Rümann 385. Lanck./Oehler II 175.

Binding tight and firm. A very good copy. Reliure demi-veau, dos à nerfs orné, plats défraîchis et frotté, mors fendu sur 3 cm, intérieur frais, manque le frontispice, portrait de l'empereur dans la première partie. Rare réunion de trois textes concernant l'illustre voyageur Joseph II (1741-1790) Empereur d'Allemagne. "Après le voyage d'Italie, la plus mémorable excursion de Joseph II, ce fut son voyage en France, qu'il entreprit le 1 avril 1777, sous le nom de Comte de Falkenstein, nom qu'il prenait ordinairement, sa suite se composait de vingt personnes et il garda le plus strict incognito. Il ne reçut pas de Louis XVI son beau-frère un accueil bien sympathique. (Hoefer 26, page 949)". Joseph II a vue une grande partie de l'Europe en voyageur éclairé, il a le désir de s'instruire des moeurs et des usages, de voir les chefs d'oeuvres. Dans la seconde partie l'auteur retrace le parcours de l'illustre voyageur jusque sur les bords du Rhin et finit la relation à Genève, ou plutôt à Ferney. Paru en 1776, il remonte en droite ligne à l'époque de Cirey, où Voltaire et la marquise du Châtelet lisaient et commentaient un chapitre des Ecritures pendant le déjeûner. Au fil des années, la science biblique de Voltaire s'est constamment enrichie, si bien que, vers la fin de sa vie, il est devenu un des commentateurs de la Bible les plus instruits de son époque (Dictionnaire Voltaire). Cette édition n'est pas citée par Bengesco. Le texte n'est pas précédé de l'Averrttissement de l'éditeur, vraisemblablement rédigé par Voltaire, indiquant que les éditions suivantes que les fautes typographiques de l'édition originale ont été corrigées. Ex-libris armorié avec cette devise Fortis ut Samson qui est la devise de Samson. Bel exemplaire. Quite clean and neat inside. Very good. In a half morocco box. A little-known and scarce Swedish guide to the American colonies, issued in the early years of the Revolution. Each of the thirteen colonies is discussed in its own section, with details on counties and towns, early exploration, colonization and history, climate, inhabitants, and more. The formerly Swedish colony of Delaware gets surprisingly little attention. The very interesting (and apparently quite scarce) Revolutionary map is entitled "Seat of War in America 1777" in English and Swedish, but is otherwise all in English. It has a small inset of the entire East Coast, but the main part of the map shows the region from the Chesapeake Bay up to Massachusetts and New Hampshire. ONE OF THE GREAT BOOKS BY CAPTAIN JAMES COOK AND an extremely important and scarce work on Polar exploration and a cornerstone work in the voyage oeuvre. The first recorded mission to the Antarctic region and the first crossing of the Antarctic Circle. Prior to Cook, virtually nothing was known about the great area of space called the Antarctic region. Since Magellan returned from rounding Cape Horn in 1520 there had been wide spread belief that a large continent may be present over the South Pole. Many went so far as to believe that this continent may even be inhabited and perhaps warm and lush due to the volcanic activity Magellan observed at Tierra del Fuego. These theories and speculations would persist for over two centuries with virtually no additional evidence to support or rebute them. Cook, setting off in 1773, went expressly with the idea of finding out the truth about the regions round the South Pole, still spoken of vaguely as "Terra IncognitoO. New Holland (Australia) was itself once believed to be part of this great shadowy continent, but Cook's earlier voyage (1768-1771) had definitely proved that New Holland did not form part of some still larger expanse of land. Captain Cook took with him two small ships, the OResolutionO and the OAdventureO, and in addition to the crews he took men interested in science and natural history, so that every kind of observation might be made. Cook steered steadily south, and on January 17, 1773, he crossed the Antarctic Circle, thus sailing where man had never before ventured. Long before this he had encountered ice, for, although latitude 66.5! south is taken as the border line of the Antarctic Circle, Polar conditions are met with long before the actual Antarctic Circle is reached. Having crossed the Antarctic Circle in January 1773 (summer-time in those latitudes)' Cook decided that the conditions and surroundings made it unwise to risk staying there in colder weather. He therefore withdrew for a time, and continued his wide, sweeping survey in the direction of New Zealand. In December 1773 he returned to the Antarctic Circle to find the ice so difficult that he had again to retire for a few weeks. But in the next monthNJanuary 1774Nhe came back again, and this time he succeeded in forcing his way as far south as 71! 10O. From here, being a man of intelligence and duty, he determined to return home. As far as his eye could range he saw nothing but ice-fields. There was no sign of vegetation, no animal life; the cliffs were smooth and inaccessible; and, in any case, a landing could apparently afford no benefit. He records: OI will not say it was impossible anywhere to get farther to the south; but the attempting it would have been a dangerous and rash enterprise, and what I believe no man in my situation would have thought of. I, who had ambition not only to go farther than anyone had been before, but as far as it was possible for man to go, was not sorry at meeting with this interruption [of solid ice]. Since therefore, we could not proceed one inch farther to the south, no other reason need be assigned for my tacking and standing to the north.O Later he records the impression left on his mind by those southern snows, which is memorable not only in itself but as the very first account of a region never before visited by man. OThick fogs, snowstorms, intense cold, and every other thing that can render navigation dangerous must be encountered; and these difficulties are greatly heightened by the inexpressibly horrid aspect of the country; a country doomed by nature never once to feel the warmth of the sun's rays, but to lie buried in everlasting snow and ice.O And so, having reached 71! 10' S., and having seen sights never before seen by man, Cook's vessels laboriously sailed out of the Antarctic Circle, an area to which no explorer would return to for more than forty years. By the end of July 1775 Cook's expedition was back in England, after an absence of rather more than three years. In this long time only four men out of a company of 191 had died, and of these only one had succumbed to disease. Captain Cook was not only a superb navigator, but understand the laws of good health as well as the laws of good seamanship. Other voyagers followed Cook in the South Polar region, and have of course far exceeded the boundaries set by him, but to Cook belongs the glory of being the first to adventure there. He established conclusively that the fabled southern continent of volcanic warmth and habitation had no existence and he had pushed back the boundaries of the South Polar Continent almost to their real position. He returned nevertheless convinced, from dredged material and from evidence other than the actual sight of land, that a great continent really had its existence around the Pole. This, the official account of the second voyage, was written by Captain Cook himself, and was the only account that Cook ever wrote himself. It was on this voyage that the continent of Antarctica was first outlined. The account also contains extensive material on New Zealand, the Friendly Islands, Easter Island and the Society Islands.

Some light old surface soiling. Sheet size: 22 1/2 x 15 1/8 inches. This is one of a small handful of Revolutionary War battle plans that relate to the City of New York. Sauthier's delineation of upper Manhattan was the most accurate and detailed to date. After the British occupation of New York, General Washington evacuated Manhattan, except for Fort Washington at the northern tip of the island. The British under General Howe moved north and attacked the main American army at White Plains in October 1776. But the Americans still remained in control of Fort Washington behind their forward lines. On November 16, the British mounted a six-column attack on the fort that forced the patriots to surrender. Washington's decision not to evacuate Fort Washington was one of his most serious tactical errors of the war. Almost three thousand men were taken prisoner and the British seized large quantities of supplies and weapons. Four days later General Cornwallis was sent to take Fort Lee on the opposite New Jersey shore, but the Americans stationed there had retreated. Sauthier illustrated the four phases of the attack with the letters A through D. The key at right identifies the first attack as that by Gen. Knyphausen, the second by Matthews and Cornwallis, the third as a feint, and the fourth by Lord Percy. Scarce socio-sexual satirical poem in which "a lady of quality" writes to Omai requesting more Polynesian men to satisfy the appetites of her European sisters. The poem reads, "Come, Southern youths! these happy feats explore, / New pleasures wait you on Britannia's shore." The author was a Dublin- born poet and playwright. The sexual overtones are complemented with the author's social commentary on British greed and love of luxury: "Two fiends with joint and sov'reign sway shall reign, / The love of pleasure, and the love of gain, / And full, and perfect, as in British soul, / Absorb all feelings, and all aims controul." Omai was the first Tahitian to visit England; he arrived aboard the Adventure, one of the ships with Cook's Second Voyage. He was returned to the Society Islands by Cook in November of 1777, in the course of Cook's third and final voyage. "When the Adventure arrived in England Omai was taken under the wing of Joseph Banks who, along with Solander, presented him at court on 17 July 1774. He was received with such favour that he was granted a royal pension while in England. Shortly afterwards (possibly at the king's urging) he was taken by Banks and Solander to Baron Dimsdale in Hertfordshire to be inoculated against smallpox. (The disease had killed Omai's compatriot Aoutourou, the first Tahitian to visit Europe, who had been taken to France in 1769 by Bougainville.) While in England, thanks to the connections made possible by Banks, Lord Sandwich, and the Burneys, Omai came to know many of the most prominent members of aristocratic and literary society. When Dr Johnson met him in April 1776 he was 'struck with the elegance of his behaviour', accounting for it on the grounds that 'he had passed his time, while in England, only in the best company; so that all that he had acquired of our manners was genteel' (Boswell, LIFE, 3.8). . During his two years in England Omai provided elite society with a living example of the 'noble savage' and a focus for discussions about the virtues of natural man as against the artificiality produced by civilization. . Un volume grand in-plano. 25 planches aquarellées simples et doubles : cartouches, tableau d'arrangement, scène de la présentation de l'ouvrage le 10 décembre 1777 à sa majesté Joseph II empereur des Romains, page d'explications, cartes générales, cartes particulières et un grand plan de Bruxelles. Reliure demi basane d'époque. Ce travail monumental a été réalisé sous la direction du comte de Ferraris par Louis André Dupuis, Charles-Nicolas Cochin, Charles-Dominique-Joseph Eisen, Charles-Emmanuel Patas &c. et composée sur le modèle de la carte de France par Cassini. Le comte de Ferraris se distingua notamment lors de la bataille de Hochkirchen et fut nommé, en 1767, directeur de l'artillerie des Pays-Bas et en charge de la carte de la Belgique. Bel exemplaire superbement aquarellé qu'il est très difficile de trouver complet des 25 planches. Toutes les planches sont sans défaut. Un mors fendu.

First published in London in French as La Quinzaine Anglaise, this work was presented as a posthumous publication by Sterne. It was, however, a satire by John James Rutledge (1743-1794), an Englishman forced to live in Paris becaus of family debt. He made his living as a writer. Internally these volumes are in very good to fine, maps are fine, the problem is with the covers and spines. Bindings are tight, however the leather spines are missing large pieces, several of the volumes has detached covers, and two volumes are missing their covers. This set would be good for rebinding.

First edition of this thorough work on tetanus, which provides a comprehensive history of this disease, its symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments (including many of a pharmacological nature). Trnka (1739-91), a Bohemian physician of great learning, was professor of anatomy at the University of Tyrnau. He wrote on a number of diseases and was highly regarded for his observations, erudition, and industry. Hirsch considered Trnka to be an authority of the first rank during his time. (7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches), full contemporary crimson straight grain morocco, with a gilt chain border between two gilt fillets; smooth round spine divided into gilt panels, lavishly decorated. Board edges gilt, inner gilt dentelles; a.e.g. The front board of volume II has been stabbed with a pin or needle several times, only one of which has reached the first few leaves of the book, with no noticeable effect. Bookplate of the Hon. W. Wyndham and the signature of Sophia Bernard on the titles.#11;#11;First published the same year as editions printed in Paris, Liege, and Frankfurt, this edition contains 254 and 310 numbered pages and ten engraved plates (five in each volume) avant la lettre. Jean-Francois Marmontel (1723-99) was a friend and disciple of Voltaire and early in his career the author of some forgotten tragedies, some serious comedies, comic operas, a light comedy, and some slight tales, two mediocre historical romances, Belisaire, which was condemned by the Sorbonne on account of a chapter on toleration (the censure serving only to render that body ridiculous and to advertise the book), and, in 1777, Les Incas, in which Las Casas figures as defender of the Indians. Marmontel was, moreover, the principal contributor of the literary articles in the Encyclopedie. He was a member from 1763, and later, from 1783, perpetual secretary, of the Academie, succeeding d'Alembert.#11;#11;Les Incas has become a scarce title of late. Sonnenfels was professor of police and cameral sciences in Vienna and together with Justi the major figure in Austrian eighteenth century cameralism. He held several high offices in the Austrian administration and also was involved in the reform of the penal system and in various philanthropic activities. His Grundsatze der Polizey, Handlung und Finanzwissenschaft (2 volumes 1765-67) has been used as an official textbook for decades. Sonnenfels represented 'an improved version of the mercantilist theory ... in several respects superior to Justi'. The present volume, published and with a preface by J. de Luc(c)a, collects various essays which are contradictory to the title mostly concerned with economic and social matters. Son ironie mordante en dit long sur la décadence des moeurs à la fin du règne de Louis XV. Mayer littérateur français né le 2 janvier 1751 à Toulon, mort vers 1825, (Hoefer, 34, page 541). Reliure demi-veau, dos à nerfs orné, plats défraîchis et frotté, mors fendu sur 3 cm, intérieur frais, manque le frontispice, portrait de l'empereur dans la première partie. Rare réunion de trois textes concernant l'illustre voyageur Joseph II (1741-1790) Empereur d'Allemagne. "Après le voyage d'Italie, la plus mémorable excursion de Joseph II, ce fut son voyage en France, qu'il entreprit le 1 avril 1777, sous le nom de Comte de Falkenstein, nom qu'il prenait ordinairement, sa suite se composait de vingt personnes et il garda le plus strict incognito. Il ne reçut pas de Louis XVI son beau-frère un accueil bien sympathique. (Hoefer 26, page 949)". Joseph II a vue une grande partie de l'Europe en voyageur éclairé, il a le désir de s'instruire des moeurs et des usages, de voir les chefs d'oeuvres. Dans la seconde partie l'auteur retrace le parcours de l'illustre voyageur jusque sur les bords du Rhin et finit la relation à Genève, ou plutôt à Ferney. Du Coudray (Alexandre-Jacques Chevalier, fécond écrivain du XVIII° siècle (Quérard, Supercheries littéraires, tome I page 1012) La seconde partie qui paraît pour la première fois dans la troisième édition est intitulée "Relation fidèle et historique du voyage de M. le comte de Falckenstein, (Barbier I, pages 184 et 185). First edition of this extremely scarce and important book which contains the announcement of Scheele!s discovery of oxygen, made independently of, and two years prior to, Priestley. Scheele!s monumental discovery was made by 1773; he had begun his experiments on oxygen in 1770. The publication of this book was delayed due to the fact that Tobern Bergman was two years late in delivering his promised preface. The work is fittingly bound with Bergman!s own lectures on the nature and application of chemistry, a rare work that is not included in his collected works Opuscula Physica et Chemica.!The independent discovery of oxygen is here described and the composition of air by two gases is illustrated. One of these is necessary for combustion and respiration and it is absorbed by a number of solid substances and can be artificially produced; the second gas (nitrogen) prevents combustion. Scheele!s !fire-air! (oxygen) could be produced from saltpetre, from black oxide of manganese, from oxide of mercury, etc. The photo-sensitive nature of chloride of silver was announced, a discovery that led to photography! (Dibner, Heralds of Science, 41). !Scheele (1742-1786) was an experimental genius; he made more discoveries of first-rate importance with fewer opportunities and scantier appliances than any one else, and his skill, insight and power of illuminating experimental results have never been surpassed, if indeed, they have ever been equaled! (Ferguson II.331).Bergman (1735-1784) was a member of the Swedish Academy and from 1767 professor of chemistry at Uppsala. He had a high regard for the younger Scheele and !did everything in his power to bring him to the notice of the scientific world. Bergman owed to him ! his transition from obscurity to a leading position in the world of science.! (Partington, III, p. 208) His Essay on the General Usefulness of Chemistry and its Application to the Various Occasions of Life (thus the title of the English edition of 1783) gives !a general view [of] medical, oeconomical, and technical chemistry, halurgy, geurgy, theiurgy, salts, earths, inflammable substances, metals, waters and airs.! Huestis], 1881. 18cm, xi, 179p. original blind-stamped black cloth, some slight wear at the edges else very good, rare Archibald was born in Truro, N.S., in 1777 and educated at Andover and Harvard Universities. He was called to the bar of Nova Scotia in 1805, and in 1806 elected to the House of Assembly for Halifax, a position he held until 1835. When the county was divided he returned as representative of Colchester county and remained until 1845. From 1824 to 1828 he was chief justice of P.E.I. In 1830 he was elected speaker of the N.S. House of Assembly, and became solicitor-general of the province. On April 29, 1844, he was appointed master of the rolls, and judge of the Court of Vice-Admiralty. This office he held until his death in Halifax, 1846.

Winterthur, Heinrich Steiner und Comp., 1777. - Erste Ausgabe eines der zauberhaftesten illustrierten Bücher des 18. Jahrhunderts. Mit gestochenem Titelblatt, auf dem der sein Publikum begrüßende Fabelerzähler, der jugendliche, lächelnde Aesop, von den Fabeltieren Löwe, Hirsch, Affe und Eichhörnchen umgeben ist. Dieses Titelblatt liegt hier in der deutschen Fassung vor, meist erscheint es mit französischem Text und der Jahreszahl 1780. Schellenberg hat das Werk seinem "hochgeschätzten edlen Freund" Chodowiecki gewidmet. In der Einleitung, die in deutscher Schreibschrift wiedergegeben ist, schreibt Schellenberg: "Keine Gegenstände in der Natur konnten mir mehrere Abwechslung in Absicht auf Erfindung, Zeichnung und des Stichs liefern, als das reiche Feld der Fabeln" und er bittet ihn, ihm seine Meinung über diese Probe freimütig mitzuteilen, und sollte das eine oder andere das Glück haben, seinen Beifall zu finden, dann sei ihm dies ein Antrieb, künftig seine Kräfte zu verdoppeln. Die Kupfer "gehören zu dem Besten, was Schellenbergs Stichel formte. Die Schilderung der sich zumeist in der Tierwelt abspielenden Vorgänge ist lebendig, die Menschen sind vorzüglich charakterisiert" (Leemann-van-Elck in: Stultifera Navis IV 3/4, S. 97). – Ungewöhnlich frisches, extrem breitrandiges, kaum fleckiges Exemplar auf festem Schreibpapier, wohl eine Vorzugsausgabe. Die Tafeln ebenfalls unbeschnitten, jedoch zwangsläufig kleiner im Format. So sehr selten. – Bodemann 165.1. Rümann 385. Lanck./Oehler II 175.
