1530. In 8!, pp. 4, a-z8, Aa8, Bb4, A-V8. legatura coeva in piena pergamena rigida, con cinque nervature al dorso. Bella marca tipografica al frontespizio, del celebre stampatore di Lione la quale ricorda quella utilizzata dal resto della famiglia trasferitasi nel 1544 a Venezia. In questo caso il motto e "Virtute duce comite fortuna". Il testo del volume cioe la raccolta dei salmi, e riportata e tradotta in tre lingue: Nella prima parte del volume vi sono le traduzioni in latino e in ebraico, mentre nella seconda parte vi e la traduzione in greco con testo in latino a fronte. il testo impresso con caratteri puliti e all'interno di una tenue cornice rossa che riquadra l'intera pagina. Importantissima prima edizione di questa raccolta di salmi, tradotti e curati da Sante pagnini, ebraista domenicano esegeta della Bibbia Lucca 1470-lione 1536. Chiamato a Roma da Leone X per insegnarvi le lingue orientali, vi rimase fino al 1521. Quindi passo ad Avignone e infine a Lione dove ebbe parte attiva contro i valdesi e i luterani. Erste deutsche Ausgabe aus dem Jahr des lateinischen Originaldrucks (Ad illustrissimos Germaniae principes Augustae congregatos, De convitiis Eccii, epistola). Die vom Zürcher Reformator auf dem Augsburger Reichstag vorgestellte Abendmahlslehre (Fidei ratio) stiess sowohl bei den Lutheranern als auch bei den Katholiken auf allgemeine Ablehnung. Johannes Eck als Vertreter der Kurie, liess sich die Gelegenheit nicht entgehen, den Zwist unter den Protestanten zu fördern, indem er Zwingli unterstellte, mit den Wiedertäufern gemeinsame Sache gemacht zu haben. An die protestantischen Fürsten Deutschlands gerichtet, veröffentlichte Zwingli dann den vorliegenden Sendbrief, worin er seinen Standpunkt erläuterte und gleichzeitig vor der katholischen Agitation warnte. - Die hübsche Eingangsinitiale gehört zum achten Bildinitial-Alphabet Christoph Froschauers d. Paris, (Julien Hubert pour) Jeha Sainct Denis, 1530.. Titel., fol. 55, 8 nn. Bll.. Mit großer Holzschnitt-Druckermarke am Titel, 4 Holzschnitt-Tafeln und 5 Textholzschnitten. 8°. Lederband des 19. Jhdts mit überreicher Blindprägung und Titel-Goldprägung im Stil der Renaissance, dreiseitigem Goldschnitt mit schöner ornamentaler Punzierung.. Gering berieben; an den drei Bünden und dem oberen Kapital mit kleinen Fehlstellen; vorderes Außengelenk angeplatzt; 1 Bl. mit kl. Eckausriß (Papierfehler, kein Textverlust); Vorsätze gebräunt. Dieser Schäferkalender, gesetzt in einer Bastarda, gibt Anleitungen für das Datieren beweglicher Feste, der Mondzyklen etc., wobei die 4 großen Holzschnitte Hände als Gedächtnisstützen zeigen. In der Druckermarke tragen ein Schäfer und ein Doktor einen Schild mit dem Bild von St. Denis. Provenienz: aus der Biblioteca Colombina, mit deren Exlibris auf Innendeckel. Der 2., illegitime Sohn des Christoph Columbus, Fernando (Ferdinand), 1488-1539, begleitete seinen Vater als 13-Jähriger auf der vierten Amerikafahrt und gründete die hochberühmte Biblioteca (in Sevilla) mit ihren ca. 12000 Titel aufgrund seiner wissenschaftlichen, insbes. kosmographischen Ambitionen; er galt als größter Bibliophiler seiner Zeit. Ende des 19. Jhdts erwarb der Kunstsammler Charles Fairfax Murray (1849-1919) dieses Exemplar, ließ es neu binden und versah es mit seinem Bibliotheksnummer-Schildchen (No. 104; auf dem vorderen Innendeckel). Auf dem inneren Hinterdeckel das Exlibris der Bibliotheca Broxbourniana mit dem Datum 17 March 1949; Gründer der Bibliothek war Albert Ehrmann (1890-1969); sein Intitialen-Exlibris auf dem vorderen Innendeckel, seine hs. Initialen auf dem hinteren Innendeckel. Die Bibliothek gelangte 1977 zur Auktion. Nur 3 Exemplare dieses Werks sind bekannt: BL London und BN Paris (cf. Moreau III, 2066) und das vorliegende (cf. Bound later (early 20th cent) vellum spine and corners with plain paper over boards, later endpapers; library stamp on front paste-down, recto of B1 and rear free endpaper; contents with many and various dampstains, light foxing, a few leaves repaired, most leaves have been rehinged. Previous owner's signature and date of 1898 at bottom of title and bottom of last leaf. A-G4, H3, lacking final blank. Benzing #2829. First Edition. Luther's important work on the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. "Admonition Concerning the Sacrament of the Body and Blood of Our Lord." Written during Luther's six month stay at Coburg, it appeared in print for the 1st time around the middle of November 1530. It circulated widely finding acceptance even in Switzerland among the Zwinglians. Ambrose Blaurer commended it to Bucer of Strassburg in these words: "Luther has come out with a splendid book on the sacrament which certainly pleases all our Zwinglians extremely well. Sehr seltene erste Ausgabe der bedeutenden Türkenschrift des 1552 in Udine verstorbenen Humanisten. Amaseo hatte die vorliegende, lt. Apponnyi "sehr schöne, interessante" Rede am 1. Jänner des Jahres vor dem Kaiser, dem Papst und 30 Kardinälen in Bologna gehalten, und zwar unmittelbar, "nachdem der Friede zwischen den beiden Fürsten am Vorabend feierlich verkündet worden war. Der Redner hofft, daß der zwischen den christlichen Potentaten nunmehr gesicherte Friede es ermöglichen werde, den Türken endlich aufs Haupt zu schlagen [...] Amaseo wurde später vom Papst Paul III. in diplomatischen Missionen nach Polen gesandt, es scheint aber, daß er schon damals hohe Gönner dortselbst hatte, sonst wäre wohl die in Bologna gehaltene Rede nicht noch im selben Jahr in Krakau gedruckt worden" (Apponyi). - Auf dem von vierteiliger Holzschnittbordüre eingefaßten Titelblatt ein Dekastichon von Anianus Burgonius "in commendationem Romuli". - Nicht auf dt. oder internationalen Auktionen seit 1970, kein Ex. über OCL nachweisbar. Seltene erste Ausgabe der "ersten auf wissenschaftlicher Basis beruhenden Beschreibung Deutschlands" (NDB). Münster hatte bereits 1528 in seiner Schrift "Erklärung eines neuen Instruments der Sunnen" alle Liebhaber der Geographie aufgefordert, ihm Material zu einer Beschreibung Deutschlands zu beschaffen. 1530 erschien dann als programmatischer Entwurf zu seiner Kosmographie das vorliegende Buch, das auf Grundlage der Mitteleuropakarte des Nikolaus Cusanus eine historisch-geographische Beschreibung Deutschlands, Osteuropas und der Türkei enthält. L'?uvre linguistique et d'érudition d'Isidore de Seville culmine avec son "Etymologie" vaste compilation encyclopédique qui rassemble les diverses branches du savoir en un seul corps d'ouvrage. L'ouvrage présenté ici réunit sous le titre de "Enarrationes" les commentaires d'Isidore de Seville sur plusieurs thèmes, souvent fort curieux, contenus dans les livres de l'Ancien Testament: "De Inventione Moysi", "De aedificatione arca", "De argento et aureo Aegyptiorum sublato", "De aquis maris", "De talione", "De discretione ciborum", "de immunditia partum", "De lepris", "De pollutione somnium nocturno", "De arcae captivitate",etc., etc. Ce livre d'Isidore de Seville est très rare et peu connu. Titre entouré d'un belle bordure gravée sur bois avec des personnages, chimères et décors divers. Rousseurs fortes dans une partie du volume. Bon exemplaire cependant. Palau, 292113. Eine der meistgedruckten Schriften des großen deutschen Volksdichters, die in volkstümlichen Reimen die Kaiser beschreibt: "Eins tags batt ich ein Erenholdt / Das er mir kurtz erzelen solt / Aller Römischen Keyser nam / Wie einer nach dem an(d)ern kam / ..." Kaiser Karl V. als letzter wird mit immerhin 14 Distichen gewürdigt. - In zeitgenössischer Hand sind die Namen aller Kaiser sauber an den Rand geschrieben. Von einzelnen schwachen Fleckchen abgesehen sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar mit dem eigenhändigen Besitzvermerk von Richard Zoozmann (1863-1934) am Schluß.- Vgl. R. Title with woodcut coat-of-arms of Everard van de Marck within border consisting of four ornamental woodcuts, 2 woodcuts of Maria, Anna & Christ (63 x 42 mm), and a bishop in his study (46 43 mm), both within the same ornamental border of four cuts, and almost full-page woodcut printer's device on last page, woodcut initials. Finely rubricated in red throughout. 116 ff. [Collation A-O8 P4]. With 2 indexes in contemporary handwriting on 4 inserted lvs. at the beginning; 27 lines on a page. Editio princeps of Placentius' history of the bishops and general history of the dioceses Tongres (Tongeren), Maastricht and Liege until 1506. The work is dedicated tot Everard van de Marck, who was bishop of Liege from 1505 until his death in 1538. A later edition was edited by M.Z. Boxhorn under the title De Leodiensi republica and was published in Leiden (by I. Commelin) and Amsterdam (by J. Janssonius) in 1633.Johannes Placentius (or Jean le Plaisier, Johan Struven, Struiven or Struiven) was born in the beginning of the 16th century in Sint-Truiden, near Liege. He became a Dominican monk in Maastricht and studied in Louvain. He died in 1548. Besides the present work he a.o. wrote a chronicle in verses until the year 1458 of which nothing else is known. Rather famous is his Neo-Latin poem ('poeme tautogramme') of 253 hexameters 'Pugna porcorum' (The battle of the pigs), published anonymously in 1546 with the fictitious author's name 'Publius Porcius'. Contents :- The work is preceded by 4 leaves containing three separate indices, written and rubricated in red in a strictly contemporary hand 'Pro Thoma v. Venne, presbytero in Oorschot conviviorum' (For Thomas vande Venne , priest of the monastery in Oirschot (Brabant): the same Thomas van de Venne who owned the book and who wrote his name on the title-page! This Thomas vande Venne can be found in the Oirschot archives as a priest in Oischot and member of a well-known Oirschot family).- ff. (20), 468; bella e importante legatura coeva in p. pergamena su assicelle, ai piatti fregi vegetali e geometrici impressi a secco entro riquadri concentrici, ai medesimi tracce del sistema di chiusura, dorso a nervi. Grande marca impresa di Froben al tit. e al verso dell'ultimo f., numerose stupende grandi e piccole iniz. ornate; testo in car. tondo. Dedica a Papa Giulio II. Bella, importante e rara edizione di quest'opera del grande erudito (Roma 1451 - Volterra 1522), apparsa per la prima volta a Roma nel 1506: "autentico monumento dell'enciclopedismo umanistico, destinato ad un'immediata fortuna europea...e a rimanere in auge come massimo repertorio enciclopedico fino al XVII secolo" (DBIt., vol. 67, p. 2549). Essa si occupa di tutto lo scibile umano possibile alla fine del XV ed inizio del XVI sec. Oltre la geografia, cui sono dedicati addirittura i primi 12 libri, concerne l'anatomia e la patologia dell'uomo (libro XXV), la zoologia (lib. XXVI), la botanica (lib. XXVII), le scienze matematiche (con fig. dell'abaco a f. CCCLXXI), l'ottica (con figg. a f. CCCLXXII) e poi ancora la filosofia aristotelica, l'oratoria, la filologia, la giustizia, ecc. Però l'opera è importante soprattutto perché tratta delle recenti scoperte degli Spagnoli e dei Portoghesi in America (cfr: Harrisse, n. 43: «...les récentes découvertes des Espagnols et des Portugais son appréciées au point de vue du christianisme qui les avait inspirées. Après avoir glorifié le passage aux Indes par le cap de Bonne-Espèrance, et les navigations vers les îles de l'occident, qui n'avaient encore reçu le nom immérité d'Americ Vespuce, l'auteur dépeint les peuples nouveaux...». Erstausgabe einer der historischen Arbeiten des Stra§burger Reformators, nicht bloss eine Kompilation aus alten Kirchenhistoriker sondern auch durch Hedios umfangreiche Kommentare ein im reformatorischen Geiste geschriebenes eigenes Werk, die "bald vielgelesene Volksbücher wurden ... Wie den Euseb so übertrug Hedio frühere Weltchroniken ins Deutsche, versah dieselben mit Anmerkungen und führte sie bis auf seine Zeit fort, hauptsächlich mit dem apologetischen Bestreben, die Reformation geschichtlich zu rechtfertigen ... Nicht mit Unrecht ist Hedio als erster protestantischer Kirchenhistoriker bezeichnet worden" (RE VII, 517). Die gro§e Kirchengeschichte des Stra§burger Gelehrten ist der erste protestantische Versuch dieser Art. It is not just a compilation from ancient church historians but also a personal work written by Caspar Hedio: his translations are accompanied by his extensive commentaries in the spirit of the reformation, getting very popular in his days. In this copy the last index leaf is missing, slight browning to some leaves, light waterstain in upper margin, the last few index leaves the outer margin with light waterstain as well, rubbed and duststained blindstamped vellum over spine and up to the middle of the wooden boards, in this copy a work of about 100 leaves was originally bound before the ÇChronicaÉ, and has been bound out, remains of copper clasps. Il Census ICCU riporta un'ediz. del 1539 degli stessi tipografi ma con sole 46 cc. Per la marca tipografica al verso dell'ultima carta vedi Zappella, 485 e Kristeller, 287. Pastorello n° 390 ricorda solo 2 edizioni stampate dai fratelli Brandino e Ottaviano Scoto. Manca a BM. STC e Adams, il Census Iccu non registra alcun'esemplare nelle biblioteche italiane. Important work about the presbiterian church's principles and its relation with the Augsburgos of 1530, headed by the Emperor Charles V. The primitive text, related in latin as well as in German, being even nowadays considered, base for the Luteran doctrine. Old ink notes in title page and the last page. Paper lightly brownished. (20) pp. Original edition of Polydorus Vergilius's Latin translation of this treatise of Ioannes Chrysostomus (345-407), a popular `Fürstenspiegel' on the superbe monk and the bad king, with the greek text added. Polydorus Vergilius dedicated his work (London, 1528) to Erasmus; in later years Polydorus accused Erasmus of plagiarizing his Proverbiorum libellus in the Adagia. The present work is printed by Gerardus Morrhius (Gerrit Morre), member of a well known family in the Overijssel-town Kampen, who after his studies, ca. 1530, established a scholarly publishing house of high standards settled in Paris. S.n.t. (Venezia, 1530 circa). "In-8°; 40 cc.nn. (compresa l'ultima bianca), caratteri corsivi; legatura del novecento in mezzo marocchino verde con titolo in oro al dorso. Ritratto dell'autore inciso al frontespizio. Buon esemplare." Prima rara edizione della commedia, almeno a parere dei più che la attribuiscono in genere all'iniziativa editoriale di Melchiorre Sessa. A questa stampa fa séguito un'altra che è ancor più rara e, se pure successiva, comunque dovette uscire dai torchi dopo un brevissimo lasso di tempo, anch'essa senza alcuna indicazione tipografica. Le due edizioni, entrambe assai rare, differiscono per diversi dettagli tipografici: il più vistoso è la presenza in questa di un capolettera nella missiva iniziale, diretta all'Aretino da Ludovico Dolce. Ma a parte ciò, vi sono ben più interessanti discordanze testuali: il personaggio di Margherita nell'altra edizione è chiamato sin dalla prima scena Margarita. Sulla questione cominciò a far luce l'Agnelli, all'inizio della voce dedicata al Negromante, negli Annali delle edizioni ariostee (vol. II, (pp.119-20). Brown stain in upper-inner corners extending into the text in some leaves; first few leaves worn in corners and foremargin where binding is damaged; small wormholes in outer margins towards the end; headline on last leaf shaved; sheet K3.4 browned. Binding: Contemporary limp vellum. Corners and upper foredge worn away, spine cracked across in one place, somewhat soiled, ties lacking. Provenance: Signature 'Octaviani Galleppini I: C:, et Nob: [undeciphered]' on title; 16 marginal annotations probably in the same hand in the last section. The last gathering is unsigned; in the Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge copy reported by Adams it is signed * but unsigned in the Trinity and Clare College copies. ¶ 'This work, a collection of lectures given by Mercuriale at the University of Pisa, is largely devoted to a history of epidemics based on the writings of Hippocrates [pp. 1-208]. It also contains Mercuriale's remarks on the plague as well as three shorter lectures on conception, the baths and mineral waters of Pisa [second section pp. 1-56], and the various qualities of wine and water.' [_Heirs of Hippocrates_, pp. 129-30.] The main work is dedicated to Ferdinand de Medici. The appended section, possibly printed later as it follows the register and colophon on 2E4v, is addressed to Gian Vincenzo Pinelli of Padua, the great book collector and patron of modern learning. It prints the text of lectures given in Bologna and a 'Tractatus de Vino et Aqua'. Interestingly it is this treatise on wine and water that is the only part of the work annotated by the contemporary owner of this copy. These Pisan lectures seem to have been widely read at Oxford and Cambridge, OLIS recording copies at Merton College and in the Bodleian, and Adams recording copies at three Cambridge colleges, Trinity, Clare and Caius. Durling notes that the book was edited by Marco and Orazio Cornacchini and includes the Latin text of the cases from Epidemiorum, libri 1 and 3. Mercuriale, professor of medicine at Pisa and Bologna, is today best known for his work on gymnastics and the importance of exercise for health, first published in 1569. [Bookseller: Roger Gaskell]

Dopo la carta 30 compaiono due carte aventi numero 31 il cui ordine e' stato scambiato dal rilegatore.Esemplare rimontato con legatura in pergamena antica. Frontespizio con estesa ma leggera gora sia sulla parte destra sia su quella sinistra. Margini superiori sobri, ma sempre ben distanti dal testo. Nelcomplesso buon esemplare.Introvabile prima ed unica edizione di questo libro di profezie stampato nel primo Cinquecento. Lautore era un predicatore domenicano spagnolo nato a Valencia nel 1350 e morto a Vannes (Bretagna) nel 1419. Come si desume dalla carta 5, il libro e' una Operetta mirabile di San Vincentio dellOrdine de Predicatori intitolata alla fine del mondo, nella quale tre cose principalmente si trattano. La prima, il cadimento over rovina della vita spirituale. La seconda, la rovina della dignita ecclesiastica. La terza, la rovina della fede catholica. Et in questa narratione si dechiara lavvenimento de dui Antichristi cioe delmisto, & puro, over del postizzo, & del vero, et similmente si scopreno molte calamita in diversi tempi accadute, & alcune per dover accadere si pre dicono in terror grandissimo del clero, & de religiosi, & finalmente di tutto il populo Christiano. Riportiamo, di seguito, uno dei numerosi passi inquietanti, relativo alla profezia di Daniele. Et questo vero Antichristo si dimostra nella profetia di Daniel, che e' drieto a quella di Nabuchodonosor. La quale dimostra il cadimento della fede catholica (essendo da lei alienato, quello il quale solo contra tutti la doveva mantenere.). Dice Daniel al quarto capit. che Nabuchodonosor vide un arbore che con la cima toccava il cielo & havea li rami sparsi per tutto il mondo, sopra li quali gli uccelli si solacciavano, et era quellarbore pieno di foglie et frutti. Dapoi vide venir un santo dal cielo che gridava, leva via questo arbore, ma in tutto, percioche bisogna che le radici restino sopra la terra, &disse a gli animali cherano sopra larbore, che quelli che voleano levarsi si levassino. French translation of ''Historia Confessionis Augustanae'' first published in Rostock in 1576. This work includes many texts on the history and the organisation of the Reformation by Luther, Melanchton, Erasmus, etc. David Chytreus (or Chytraeus)(1530-1600) studied in Tübingen and in Wittenberg with Melanchton. His real name was Kochhafe. He became professor at Rostock university and was also involved in the foundation of the Helmstedt university. This edition, published in Antwerp during the short period (1581-1585) when the reformists were in control of the town, is very rare. In 1585 the town was besieged and taken by the catholic Spanish troops. All protestants fled and the ensuing counter-reformation wiped out all traces of protestantism. . (20) pp. Original edition of Polydorus Vergilius's Latin translation of this treatise of Ioannes Chrysostomus (345-407), a popular `Fürstenspiegel' on the superbe monk and the bad king, with the greek text added. Polydorus Vergilius dedicated his work (London, 1528) to Erasmus; in later years Polydorus accused Erasmus of plagiarizing his Proverbiorum libellus in the Adagia. The present work is printed by Gerardus Morrhius (Gerrit Morre), member of a well known family in the Overijssel-town Kampen, who after his studies, ca. 1530, established a scholarly publishing house of high standards settled in Paris. Pace was born in Vicenza in 1530 and studied law and philosophy in Padua. He was professor of civil law in Valencia. Deeply affected by the Reformation, he eventually moved to Geneva and became a Protestant. He died in 1635. According to Schmidt (Aristotle and the Renaissance ), his edition of the Organon became standard. He also wrote a great many legal titles. In addition to this introduction to Lull, he performed a similar service for Ramus. There is some confusion about the first edition of this work but Rogent/Duran spends some time discussing references to earlier printings but finally comes to the conclusio that this is the first edition (V II,158).First Latin edition of this pocket summary of the Lullian art, by the Italian born Aristotelian and legal theorist Giulio Pace. Hillgarth groups PaceÕs introduction with that of another jurist, Pierre GrŽgoire, as being somewhat exceptional among 17th century interpreters of Lull: both avoid digressions into alchemy, cabalism and magic, and stick more closely to LullÕs traditional interests (Ramon Lull and Lullism, p. 294).
