| Crusading in the Fifteenth Century
|
Palgrave Macmillan. This collection of essays by European and American scholars addresses the changing nature and appeal of crusading during the period which extended from the battle of Nicopolis in 1396 to the battle of Mohacs in 1526. Contributors focus on two key aspects of the subject. One is developments in the crusading message and the language in which it was framed. These were brought about partly by the appearance of new enemies, above all the Ottoman Turks, and partly by shifting religious values and innovative currents of thought within Catholic Europe. The other aspect is the wide range of responses which the papacy's repeated calls to holy war encountered in a Christian community which was increasingly heterogeneous in character. Early Flemish panel binding signed by Anthoine de Gavere Basel, per Andream Cratandrum, 1526, March. 8vo. Contemporary blindstamped calf, spine ribbed, each side with two different blindstamped rectangular panels with birds and animals in floral decoration, one signed by Anthoine de Gavere, gilt and gauffered edges. Woodcut printer's device on verso of the last blank and fine decorated woodcut initials in text. (24), 551, (41) pp. Fine sixteenth-century Flemish panel-stamped binding, signed by Anthoine de Gavere. The family De Gavere were bookbinders at Ghent and Bruges between 1450 and 1545. The panel-bindings from Ghent and Bruges are among the most delicately engraved and the most carefully executed of all. According to Weale, Anthoine was active at Ghent from 1459 to 1505, but the archives of Lille contain documents proving that from 1495 to 1505 Anthoine worked at Bruges, not Ghent, and that he was the binder of a large part of the beautiful manuscripts from the library of Philip I, the Handsome, Duke of Burgundy (1478-1506). A binding with similar panels signed by Anthoine de Gavere, and containing another Plinius-edition, also dated 1526, is quoted by Leon Gruel. The present binding has two different panels on both sides, an upper panel with two rows of four animals and the surrounding text "ob laudem xpristi librum hunc recte ligavi anthonius de gavere" (Fogelmark, pl. XII), and a lower panel with two rows of three animals and the surrounding text "sit nomen domini benedictum ..." (not in Fogelmark). According to Fogelmark, not only it was practice among sixteenth-century binders in Flanders to use panels from other binders, probably obtained after their death, but also to copy panels in a process of clichage by pressing a panel die (matrix) into a soft mold (patrix). Although the present binding contains De Gavere's signature, it may be produced by another binder, as the 'ob laudem' panel was frequently used in many variants, also by other binders. In any case, this binding is an interesting specimen of early gothic binding in Flanders, contributing to our knowledge of the Flemish binding-practices of this period. Contents: three works by Plinius II, forming the main historical source for Trajan's ill-documented reign: his letters, presenting with considerable charm a richly varied picture of the life of the more cultured Romans under the Empire; his famous rhetorical essay, the Panegyricus to Trajan; and the lives of illustrious men of that period. At the end the biographies of literary men by Suetonius, and Julius Obsequens's work on prodigies are included. The work is nicely produced in a fine italic type. Fine copy in contemporary binding, with manuscript name J. Dickinson, later inscription dated 1729 on paste-down, and old ms. annotations in the margins.- (Binding restored, clasps gone). Title within elaborate historiated criblé border attributed to Oronce Finé; illustrated with numerous woodcut diagrams in text; many decorative metalcut and woodcut initials, mainly designed by Geoffroy Tory. Minor neat repair to inner margin of title and a couple of further preliminary leaves; some light spotting to margins of a few leaves; one letter written in ink (by way of correction) in inner margin of leaf b1v; a very good copy. First Edition of Fernel's first work. Though he eventually gave himself up entirely to medicine, his first three works dealt with the mathematical sciences. This first treatise deals with the motions of the heavens and describes a kind of astrolabe of Fernel's own design. Other subjects discussed include horology, astrology, geography and the measurement of distances and altitudes. The work includes an illustration of the “geometrical foot” (figuratio pedis geometrici), in the fore margin of fol. 25 verso. The geometrical foot is shown divided into 4 “palms”, each of which consists of 4 “digits”, each of which, in turn, consists of 4 “grains” (i.e. the width of a barley corn).

This appears to be their first appearance in print, although unknown to Peter Parshall, The Vision of the Aopocalypse in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, p. 159 (No. 55), in The Apocalypse And The Shape of Things To Come, edited by Frances Carey (Toronto: 1999), who describes the same set of cuts as they appear in a German bible published at Worms in 1529. The small scale and subjects are based on the set designed by George Lemberger, in its turn derived from the Cranach series for Luther’s December Testament of 1522. Primera edición española de una obra de Sacrobosco.Pedro Sánchez Ciruelo (Daroca 1470 -Salamanca 1548) estudió en el colegio de San Ildefonso de Alcalá de Henares y en la Universidad de Salamanca, donde se licenció en artes y tuvo por uno de sus maestros a Rodrigo Basurto; de ahí marchó en 1492 a París, donde se doctoró en Teología y pasó cerca de diez años, relacionándose con otros españoles como Gaspar Lax, Miguel Francés, Jacobo Ramírez y Alfonso Osorio.Durante su estancia en la capital francesa impartió clases en la Sorbona y publicó un tratado de aritmética práctica (Tractatus arithmeticae practice) en 1495. En dicha obra, varias veces reimpresa, estudia los enteros, las "fracciones físicas" y las "fracciones sexagesimales", por sus aplicaciones astronómicas, excluyendo las cuestiones de aritmética comercial; sus fuentes parecen haber sido la Arithmetica de Boecio, otros autores medievales y el De arte numerandi de Johannes de Sacrobosco, a quien sigue en buena parte de su obra; también corrigió los tratados Arithmetica speculativa y Geometria speculativa de Thomas Bradwardine. También se ocupó en editar la Sphera de Johannes de Sacrobosco, impresa por vez primera en París: Joannes Parvus, 1515, en 4º, que incluye las catorce cuestiones que Pierre d'Aílly había compuesto sobre este mismo tema, así como comentarios del propio Ciruelo y un diálogo entre un "Darocensis", se entiende que el propio Ciruelo, y "Burgensis". Vuelto a España, en 1509 el Cardenal Cisneros le eligió para la futura Universidad de Alcalá que pensaba fundar, a la que se incorporó para enseñar teología tomista durante más de veinte años, llegando a tener entre sus alumnos, entre otros, a Domingo de Soto.

Anche la dedica all'inizio, di Bernardo Giunti, è la stessa. Il contenuto di questa traduzione anonima dei soli 5 libri di Diodoro non è solo storico, ma anche mitologico. Detailed map the western part of South America and part of Central America, extending from Costa Rica to northern Chili. The map was used to illustrate the Dutch Translation of the travels of Franciscus Pizarrus (Pizarro) and Didacus Almagrus from Panama to Peru in the year 1526. In all, Vander Aa issued 130 translations of important 15th, 16th and 17th Century Travel Narratives to the America, Africa and Asia, which were issued in 28 volumes in the early part of the 18th Century. Many of the narratives are either unobtainable or extremely rare in their original formats. Striking full color example of this beautifully engraved map. Trasferitosi a Parigi attorno al 1547, qui tenne lezioni di filosofia e di diritto civile. Accusato di eresia, fuggì dal carcere e trovò riparo in Italia, protetto dal Cardinale d'Este a Roma. La presente edizione, pubblicata postuma, ebbe enorme successo attraverso numerose ristampe. Illuminante il suo giudizio sull'opera di Seneca: "Quanto di buono trovò Seneca negli antichi filosofi, delle opere dei quali aveva pienissima cognizione, che opportuno fosse alla bellezza dello stile, o alla spiegazione di oscure, ed implicate questioni, o alla riforma dei costumi, di tutto si servì nelle sue opere con somma abilità ed eleganza. Seneca nell'eleganza de' suoi scritti è di molto superiore ai suoi riprenditori". > Graesse, VI, 347, "Cette éd. n'a pas été terminée par Muret, car il est mort en revoyant le text de "Quaest. Contemporary blindstamped calf, spine ribbed, each side with two different blindstamped rectangular panels with birds and animals in floral decoration, one signed by Anthoine de Gavere, gilt and gauffered edges. Woodcut printer's device on verso of the last blank and fine decorated woodcut initials in text. (24), 551, (41) pp. Fine sixteenth-century Flemish panel-stamped binding, signed by Anthoine de Gavere. The family De Gavere were bookbinders at Ghent and Bruges between 1450 and 1545. The panel-bindings from Ghent and Bruges are among the most delicately engraved and the most carefully executed of all. According to Weale, Anthoine was active at Ghent from 1459 to 1505, but the archives of Lille contain documents proving that from 1495 to 1505 Anthoine worked at Bruges, not Ghent, and that he was the binder of a large part of the beautiful manuscripts from the library of Philip I, the Handsome, Duke of Burgundy (1478-1506). A binding with similar panels signed by Anthoine de Gavere, and containing another Plinius-edition, also dated 1526, is quoted by Leon Gruel. The present binding has two different panels on both sides, an upper panel with two rows of four animals and the surrounding text "ob laudem xpristi librum hunc recte ligavi anthonius de gavere" (Fogelmark, pl. XII), and a lower panel with two rows of three animals and the surrounding text "sit nomen domini benedictum." (not in Fogelmark). According to Fogelmark, not only it was practice among sixteenth-century binders in Flanders to use panels from other binders, probably obtained after their death, but also to copy panels in a process of clichage by pressing a panel die (matrix) into a soft mold (patrix). Although the present binding contains De Gavere's signature, it may be produced by another binder, as the 'ob laudem' panel was frequently used in many variants, also by other binders. In any case, this binding is an interesting specimen of early gothic binding in Flanders, contributing to our knowledge of the Flemish binding-practices of this period. Contents: three works by Plinius II, forming the main historical source for Trajan's ill-documented reign: his letters, presenting with considerable charm a richly varied picture of the life of the more cultured Romans under the Empire; his famous rhetorical essay, the Panegyricus to Trajan; and the lives of illustrious men of that period. At the end the biographies of literary men by Suetonius, and Julius Obsequens's work on prodigies are included. The work is nicely produced in a fine italic type. Fine copy in contemporary binding, with manuscript name J. Dickinson, later inscription dated 1729 on paste-down, and old ms. annotations in the margins.- (Binding restored, clasps gone). El folio i8 recto está sin imprimir ya de origen, pues hemos cotejado nuestro ejemplar con otro de una colección privada que también tiene este folio en blanco. Las anotaciones manuscritas son apuntes, probablemente del siglo XVI, del entonces propietario del libro, un estudiante de Sallent. En la parte superior de varias páginas aparece el nombre de Domènech Domingo, mercader al que tal vez perteneció el ejemplar. El pie de imprenta consta en el colofón. El alemán Johan Rosembach se estableció en Barcelona hacia 1492. Considerado uno de los impresores de su tiempo más importantes de Cataluña, trabajó en Tarragona, Montserrat y Perpiñán y publicó esta obra cuatro años antes de su muerte. CCPB 5353-8. With some woodcut initials. 52 lvs. Four rare post-incunables clearly bound together with the intention to form a collection of texts in defence of the Catholic faith and its liturgy against Lutheranism and to serve as an example for good and just behaviour for priests to purify the widely corrupted practice. All treatises are the only editions published in the Netherlands in the period 1500-1540, all printed in Antwerp by the most important printers/publishers active there: Michiel Hillen van Hoochstraten and Johannes Steelsius. The present copy of the treatise by Schenck van Tautenburch even is the second copy recorded of the only known edition.Ad 1: Only edition of this treatise on the way a bishop has to act and to behave to serve as an example for his subjects. Frederick Schenck van Tautenburg (1503-1588) published this treatise in the year he was appointed Councillor of the Emperor Charles V. In 1528, however, he was ordained priest and became deacon of the Cathedral and arch-deacon of St. Peter in Utrecht. Later he became the last arch-bishop of Utrecht before the Reformation (1562-1580). Only one other copy of this only edition of this treatise is known to exist: in the library of the Cathedral of Strängnäs in Sweden.Ad 2: Edition of the treatise on the ecclesiastical offices and duties in the form of a letter to bishop Fulgentius, by Isidorus Hispalensis (ca. 560-636), one of the 'Doctors of the Church' and author of the famous Etymologiarum libri XX. The treatise is edited by Johann Cochlaeus (1479-1552), who wrote also a preface, dated Dresden, 30 December 1533. NK mentions five copies: The Hague RL, London BL, Freiburg, Cologne and the Franciscans in Düsseldorf.Ad 3: Treatise on the 'Good works', based on texts from the Bible by Georg Witzel, or Wichelius (1501-1573), a correspondent of Erasmus as well as Johann Cochlaeus. The text is clearly directed against Lutheranism. NK mentions only two copies: London BL and Utrecht UL.Ad 4: One of the most important works by Ambrosius (ca. 340-397), one of the four Fathers of the Western Church known under the title De Mysteriis (on the Sacraments and the liturgy of the Mass and behaviour of priests). NK mentions a private owned copy and three copies in the Brussels RL, Oxford Bodl. Library and Cambridge UL. Very good copies of these four treatises, forming together a coherent collection. The book was till 1863 in the library of Trinity College at Glanalmond, near Edinburgh (founded in 1847, now Glenalmond College). In that year the book was bought (?) by Alex Thomson(grant?), possibly Alex Thomson (1817-1875), the 'Greek Thomson', a famous architect from Glasgow who followed the principles of Greek architecture. Probably the impression of a seal in black wax on the verso of the front cover (ca. 18 x 15 mm), with a bishop surrounded by a Greek text is Thomson's seal. Ad 1: NK 4277 (01088bis); E. Vallecchi Ed., Firenze, 2008 - Tiratura limitata di 499 esemplari num.da 1 a 499 per il mercato italiano e 100 esemplari num.da I a C per il mercato estero. La Biblioteca Casanatense annovera nel suo Fondo manoscritti oltre centoquaranta codici medievali liturgici, che vanno dal IX al XVI secolo, raggruppati negli antichi cataloghi sotto la voce «Rituales codices» ma distinti alfabeticamente secondo il loro uso. Di questi, tre soli sono registrati con il titolo specifico di Evangelium o Evangeliarium, indicante volumi che raccolgono i testi dei Vangeli. Il Ms. 2020, conosciuto fino a oggi semplicemente come Evangelia totius anni, è un evangelistario di corte di provenienza francese acquisito dalla Casanatense verso la fine del Settecento o agli inizi dell'Ottocento e contenente i brani dei Vangeli letti durante la messa nei vari periodi dell'anno. Recenti e approfonditi studi sulla storia della miniatura in Francia nel Rinascimento hanno consentito di porre in luce l'attività di atélier come quello di Tours, al quale è probabilmente da ricondurre il codice casanatense, evidenziando le caratteristiche e le sfumature stilistiche degli artisti che operavano per conto dei grandi del regno. Il nostro evangelistario vi sarebbe stato eseguito intorno al 1526, nel periodo in cui il re di Francia Francesco I fu costretto a mandare in Spagna i due figli maggiori, il delfino Francesco e il cadetto Enrico (il futuro En rico II), come ostaggi di Carlo V, in cambio della propria libertà dopo la disfatta di Pavia, avvenuta il 24 febbraio del 1525. Il libro fu realizzato insieme a un manoscritto gemello, oggi custodito alla Biblioteca Nazionale di Madrid, e a un terzo codice, conservato a Chantilly, il cui contenuto, a carattere didascalico, mirava alla formazione dei giovani principi, segregati per ragion di stato a Valladolid. Il legame che unisce i tre codici è indiscutibile, non soltanto per la presenza dei blasoni appartenenti al delfino e ai cadetti, che ne costellano la decorazione, ma perché tutti e tre sono riconducibili alla mano di un copista e di un miniatore originari di Tours e riferibili all'entourage dell'artista prediletto della regina Claudia di Francia. In particolare, l'evangelistario casanatense risulterebbe destinato alla cappella del delfino, Francesco di Valois, come conferma lo stemma ricorrente, mentre il manoscritto di Madrid alla cappella dei cadetti, nell'ipotesi che i fratelli fossero stati separati durante la prigionia. Un gioiello della miniatura rinascimentale nelle cui delicate scenette par di avvertire tutta la trepidazione della committente, la regina Claudia di Francia, ancorché sovrana ma pur sempre madre, che vedeva strappare dal suo petto il proprio piccolo, ostaggio in Spagna alla mercé di Carlo V per quella ragion di stato che non risparmiava né i potenti né i loro ancora imberbi rampolli. Il Codice Valois fu dunque ciò che ella volle far realizzare e consegnare al figlio per accompagnarlo nel suo esilio, perché con le sue letture fosse istruito e avviato su un cammino di fede che lo illuminasse per tutta la vita. The manuscripts endowment of the Casanatense Library contains more than one-hundred-forty medieval liturgical codices, from the IX to the XVI century, grouped in the old catalogues under the entry «Rituales codices», but divided alphabetically according to their use. Of these, only three are recorded with the specific title of Evangelium or Evangeliarium, indicating volumes that group texts of the Gospels. The Ms. 2020, until today known simply as Evangelia totius anni, is a court Evangeliary of French origin which the Casanatense purchased around the late eighteenth-century or the early nineteenth century, and contains the passages of the Gospels read during mass in various periods of the year. Dernière édition gothique de Chartier, en partie originale, le Débat du gras et du maigre paraissant ici pour la première fois.Le volume, en vers mêlés de prose, débute par Le Curial, Oeuvre la plus célèbre de Chartier; se trouve ensuite le Quadrilogue invectif, le Libelle de Paix, le Bréviaire des Nobles, le Réveil matin, la Belle Dame sans merci, le Livre des quatre dames, l'Hopital d'Amour. et le Débat du gras et du maigre. Restauration sans manque aux trois derniers feuillets. "Il n'y a pas au XVème siècle de renommée littéraire plus grande que celle d'Alain Chartier. Nul poète français jusqu'à Ronsard n'a été plus admiré de ses contemporains. Si l'excès de cette gloire nous surprend, il faut avouer qu'Alain Chartier a laissé loin derrière lui tous ses prédécesseurs du XVIème siècle. Dos obras enc. en un vol. en ante por BRUGALLA, nervios, tejuelos. Ex-libris de anterior poseedor. Notas manuscritas antiguas y pasajes subrayados en varias páginas, interesante dibujo en el verso de la última hoja.* Pedro Ciruelo (c.1470-c.1550) estudió artes en Salamanca y se trasladó a París en 1492. Durante su estancia en la capital francesa se doctoró en Teología e impartió clases en la Sorbona. Editó un tratado de aritmética entre cuyas fuentes los especialistas han visto a Sacrobosco, que le inspiró a lo largo de su carrera. Así, no resulta raro hallar la Sphera junto al Cursus. De regreso a España, enseñó en Sigüenza, Zaragoza y Alcalá. Palau se refiere a esta obra, que sintetiza los trabajos de Thomas Bradwardine en lo referente a la aritmética -precedida en este caso por una Quaestiuncula en la que expone las distintas teorías filosóficas sobre unidad y número- y adopta las tesis de algunos matemáticos árabes, como "Uno de los primeros libros de Matemáticas y Artes liberales impresos en España. Se ocupa extensamente de la Música." Presentamos una reimpresión diez años posterior a la primera edición que se estructura de la siguiente forma: aritmética, 18 fol; geometría, 32 fol; perspectiva, 18 fol; música, 23 fol. CCPB 5575-1. Palau 54923. Martín Abad (Post-incunables ibéricos, pág. 197) da como impresor a Miguel de Eguía en Alcalá de Henares y dice, en referencia a la organización de la obra, que: "Las partes 2ª, 3ª y 4ª, correspondientes a esta impresión [Arnaldo Guillén de Brocar, 1516] formarán un todo editorial con una nueva 1ª parte, impresa en el mismo taller, en los días de Miguel de Eguía, en 1526, y aún con otra edición de esa misma 1ª parte, en los mismos taller y año. Las partes 2ª y 3ª continuarán formando un todo editorial junto a ejemplares de esas nuevas ediciones de la 1ª parte y con una nueva edición de la parte 4ª impresa en los mismos taller y año", como es el caso de nuestro ejemplar. El pie de imprenta consta en el colofón de la segunda obra, que presenta en la portada una anotación manuscrita del Dr. José Sanz de Larrea, colegial del Mayor de Santiago de Huesca, fechada en 1786, así como una nota en una de las últimas páginas y un dibujo al final de la obra atribuible al mismo personaje, al que debió de pertenecer el presente ejemplar. Sanz de Larrea publicó el Discurso sobre el Origen, uso y cultura de la lengua española en Aragón, aún hoy citado por los lingüistas, así como una noticia sobre los papeles encontrados en casa de Vincencio Juan de Lastanosa en la que da cuenta, entre otros, de la correspondencia entre el erudito oscense y Baltasar Gracián. En la nota que se encuentra en los fol. 72 y 73, Sanz de Larrea defiende la figura de Rodrigo Basurto, que probablemente fue uno de los maestros de Ciruelo. El dibujo de la última hoja resulta curioso y harto interesante, pues enmarca en un cuadro de longitudes y latitudes ciudades como Santiago, Lisboa, Zamora, Salamanca, Toledo, Córdoba y Granada, Barcelona, Tarragona, Zaragoza y Perpiñán, entre otras, y da también cabida a las columnas de Hércules. Splendid early vellum binding from a 15th century antiphonary leaf , two magnificent fully engraved title pages designed by Hans Holbein, some delightful very large wodcut initials, come of the 'children's alphabet,' a complete, very clean wide -margined copy on good white paper, with occasional neat marginal notes, a few ink spots here and there, a beautiful copy. This book saw few folio editions in the incunable/post-incunable period, and this is a very handsome one. Rare, with no copies in the British union catalogue, none in OCLC, and only four in Europe: Biblioteca civica Mondovi, Biblioteca nazionale centrale Firenze, Biblioteca Querini Stampalia Venezia, Netherlands.

(In fine:) Vinegia, per Giovanni Antonio et fratelli da Sabbio, 1526, in-8, ff. (23, mancando l’ult. f. bianco, segn. A-F4), leg. mod. p. perg. antica flessibile. Titolo racchiuso da bordura silografica figurata a motivo archiettonico, con impresa tipogr., la quale è ripetuta in fine; testo in car. corsivo. Prima edizione della Cecaria, di estrema rarità; infatti l’edizione del 1525 del medesimo stampatore, citata da Salvioli, Gamba e Brunet, non esiste; nessun esempl. con data 1525 figura in biblioteche italiane o straniere, né è mai passato in vendita, né è citato da Sander ed Allacci, e soprattutto dai recenti Annali dei Nicolini di L. Carpané, in “Il mestiere de le stamperie de i libri”, a cura di E.Sandal. Al verso dell’ultimo foglio, sotto il colophon, è riportato il “privilegio della Signoria di Vinegia per anni dieci”. Il titolo, nelle edizioni successive alle prime due dei Da Sabbio, sarà mutato in quello di “Cecaria”. Vi figurano quattro personaggi: il Vecchio, il Geloso, il Terzo (ciechi) e la Guida. Composizione drammatica di grande successo all’epoca, in forma dialogo “in versi di vario metro, assai leggiadri” (Salvioli), senza divisione di atti né di scene, che, secondo il Crescimbeni, sarebbe la prima poesia drammatica a portare il nome di “tragicommedia” nelle edizioni posteriori. «Alcune edizioni della “Cecaria” portano come nome dell’autore Antonio Epicuro Caracciolo o Epicuro Napolitano, e questi nomi hanno generato molti dei problemi di identificazione dell’autore. Alcuni lo hanno confuso con il contemporaneo Pietro Antonio Caracciolo e con il Notturno Napoletano, mentre altri hanno ritenuto che il “napolitano” del titolo indicasse il luogo di nascita del suo autore» (Diz. Biogr. It. XLIII, pp. 19-21). Nacque in Abruzzo e visse a Napoli (1472-1555), contemporaneo di Sannazzaro, Pontano e Tansillo; fu commediografo e poeta d’occasione, “uomo faceto e buon compagno, di umor lieto e sollazzevole, e ne’ suoi costumi alquanto libero”. Detailed map the western part of South America and part of Central America, extending from Costa Rica to northern Chili. The map was used to illustrate the Dutch Translation of the travels of Franciscus Pizarrus (Pizarro) and Didacus Almagrus from Panama to Peru in the year 1526. In all, Vander Aa issued 130 translations of important 15th, 16th and 17th Century Travel Narratives to the America, Africa and Asia, which were issued in 28 volumes in the early part of the 18th Century. Many of the narratives are either unobtainable or extremely rare in their original formats. Striking full color example of this beautifully engraved map. Anotaciones manuscritas de época a lo largo de todo el texto. * Rara edición barcelonesa en caracteres góticos de la cual Palau (54331) habla sólo de referencia. El folio i8 recto está sin imprimir ya de origen, pues hemos cotejado nuestro ejemplar con otro de una colección privada que también tiene este folio en blanco. Las anotaciones manuscritas son apuntes, probablemente del siglo XVI, del entonces propietario del libro, un estudiante de Sallent. En la parte superior de varias páginas aparece el nombre de Domènech Domingo, mercader al que tal vez perteneció el ejemplar. El pie de imprenta consta en el colofón. El alemán Johan Rosembach se estableció en Barcelona hacia 1492. Considerado uno de los impresores de su tiempo más importantes de Cataluña, trabajó en Tarragona, Montserrat y Perpiñán y publicó esta obra cuatro años antes de su muerte. CCPB 5353-8. "Pregiata edizione complessiva di queste poesie giocose che tanta fortuna ebbero soprattutto a cavallo tra i secoli XV e XVI. L'autore, raffinato poeta e musico, divenne noto a Roma come improvvisatore di strambotti, raccolti per la prima volta nel 1502, a due anni dalla sua morte e che qui ricompaiono insieme a sonetti, capitoli satirici, barzellette ed altri testi, frutto di una sapida vena popolaresca. Pregiata edizione tradotta accuratamente in italiano con il proemio di Alessandro Braccio. Piena pergamena rigida coeva con titolo manoscritto al dorso e tagli a spruzzo. Seconda rara edizione della traduzione italiana stampata nel 1519 la prima volta dai Giunti e qui ripetuta con le correzioni ed una epistola di Giannozzo Pandolfini a Piero Filippi. Ottimo esemplare genuino che presenta sporadiche tracce di ossidazione a qualche carta. Nota di possesso manoscritta al frontespizio. Lievemente allentata la legatura all'inizio e alla fine.
